This is one beautiful fish but also one nasty fish.  The males are so aggressive towards the females that they kill them.  I had two males and 6 females and only one of the males was in with the females and I will be darned he killed the all.  I got 4 new females and the other male killed these so I gave up.  I sold the males to a local store and told them to make sure who ever got them knew they where very aggressive.  I would have loved to breed these fish but O well you cannot win them all.  This fish needs tons of rocks and hiding places for the females.  This is a mouth brooding species, see my breeding page for information on mouth brooding.  Sexing this fish can be done in two ways.  First by color the males have it the females don't.  Second, is call venting see link below for information on that.

Adult size: 8.9 cm
