Cyprichromis Leptosoma
"Utinta"

Thank you Armke's for allowing me to use your picture.

I could not pass up the chance to get another of the Cyprichromis.  These little fish are just fun to watch.  If you get this genius of Cichlid make sure you get at least 8 to 10 as they do best in a school.  I was lucky enough to get a group of 19 so they are very happy.  I got these fish from a local store (Chris and Carol's living world pets, Kennewick, WA) they got them from Wet Thumb Aquatics (see links page)  At times you will see entire school resting near the top of the tank with there heads facing down.  It is really quite interesting to see this group of fish pointed down.

Tank size: 20 gallon long (until they get larger)
Tank Temp: 78 to 82
Tank pH: 8.0
Adult size: 4" to 4.5" or 10 cm  to 11 cm

Breeding information:
This is a mouth brooding species (see breeding page) I have not seen this genius of Cichlid bred however I have read that they do there spawning at the top of the tank.  The male will be under the female so when she releases and egg he can fertilize it and she then goes under him to catch it and keeps it in her mouth.  When she releases the fry they tend to stay at the top of the tank so some floating plants are a really good idea.  My understanding is the fry are safe from the other adults in the school but I am not sure about this.
