This is a really cool Genius of Cichlids. These fish love to be
in a school towards the top of the tank. It is very common to see
these fish resting by pointing there heads down so they can see any danger
that might come there way. It is really a shock to see a group of
fish all facing down. Like a lot of Cichlids the males will get some
great color and the females stay rather dull in color.
Tank size: 30 gallon long
Tank Temp: 78 to 82
Tank pH: 8.0
Adult size: 11.0 cm
Breeding information:
Mouth brooder and from what I understand spawns at the top of the water
instead of using a rock or other flat surface. The female goes to
the top of the water and the male is just under her. She releases
and egg and the male fertilizes it and she then goes under the male to
get the egg. I cannot wait to watch this in action, we call it watching
"Fish Porn" lol I am waiting for CPS to show up and ask us about that one.
After 18 to 21 days the female will release her fry in floating vegetation
and the fry will soon join the school. Good idea to have something
floating for the fry to hide in. I will supply more information as
I learn and or read more about it.
