Chalinochromis
Bifrenatus, Kipili Tanzania

Thank you Cichlid Press and Ad Konings for allowing me to use your pictures.

This fish reminds me of a Julidochromis species.  It has the same basic shape but gets much bigger.  I had these in my Tanganyika community tank and they did very well.  Tends to be some what aggressive towards it's own kind but not so much to others.  I had them in a tank with some Julie Ornatus and they cross bred.  Of course the fry where fish food as I do not believe in mutt fish in the fish trade.  I never got these fish to breed and that's why I no longer have them, I do however have two other Chalinochromis species that I am trying.  I hope to have better luck with them.  This fish is a cave or shell spawner, see my breeding page for information.  It is hard to tell males from females until they are adults but you can us a method called Venting. (see link below)

Adult size:  15.0 cm
