Altolamprologus Compressiceps
Sumba Bay, Zambia

Thank you Cichlid Press and Ad Konings for allowing me to use your pictures.

I am having a hard time finding information out on this little shell dweller.  I did get some help from J. McCann at [email protected] (thank you Jim).  He bred these fish at one time and says it's and excellent little fish.  Best kept with in a tank with shells and a bit of rock work, as the males are slightly larger and sometimes use caves.  This is a shy little fish but should be cared for more or less like any other shell dweller.  I ordered this fish Wet Thumb Aquatics (see links page) and they suggest that this fish is kept by its self as it is shy and does not far well with others.
Fish Arrived on Feb. 1, 2000  about 3/4" long.  I ordered 4 and received 5 of these fish.  Sadly one did not make it but the rest seem to be doing great.

Tank Size: - 10 gallon high
Tank Temp: - 78 to 82
Tank pH: - 8.0
Tank filtration: - Aqua clear mini

Breeding Information:
With a lot of Cichlids it is hard to tell the males from the females.  When adults it's much easier as in most cases the male is larger than the female and fins are in most cases longer.  The other way to tell is called Venting.  Please check out the link below to get the information on Venting.

I had a major problem with a tank heater and I lost all the fish in the tank and these little guys where some of them that I lost.  At some point in the future I hope to try again but it will be a while.
