Midnight Game
The person who was 'It' had
to count to 50 and the remaining players had to leave in a group. This
usually took place in front of a house or other building. The group would
walk together 'around' the building calling out...1 o'clock, 2 o'clock,
3 o'clock...etc. The person who was 'It' would hide somewhere in front
of the building after counting to 50. The group would continue moving around
the building heading back to the front. They would continue announcing
the time by each hour. As they got back to the front of the building, they
would count 9 o'clock, 10 o'clock, 11 o'clock, MIDNIGHT would be screamed
and everyone would run past the step where they left the person who was
IT. That person would come out of hiding and tag as many people as he could
and they would have to sit on the steps or area in front of the building.
The ones who escape getting caught would go around the building again telling
the time. They would then try on the next turn around to save one of the
group caught in the circle, without themselves getting caught by the IT
person.
When everyone is caught or
everyone is set free, another person is IT.
I remember it being a very
exciting game. Elementary children played it. I taught it to my children
and their friends when they were bored and had nothing to do...they liked
it very much.
