Catherine is 33 years old and tells us about a game played when aged 12.

My school break times: I liked to play football with the boys. I liked to play tig, peever (hopscotch), Skipping ropes and Aunties and Uncles. My favourite school playground game: My favourite playground game was tig (chases.)

How to play: First you have to choose someone to be het, the one who has to chase. They chase after someone until they are near enough to tig (touch) them. Then it is the turn of the person who was caught to chase after the others until he or she catches someone. And so the game goes on. It was a good laugh and good exercise as well. You can play tig indoors or outdoors. You can have as many players as you want - the more the merrier! If you are playing indoors you need to have a big playing area like the school gym hall. There is no specific location to play tig. It can be played anywhere. However, the best location was the swing park.

The only language used was to say Tig when you caught someone. (Charlene Williamson, 10 years old)
