Playing Cheggies and Marbles
Hugh is 44 years old and tells us about a game played when aged 5-12. My school break times: I used to eat cold toast, tell jokes, gamble, swop football cards and play cheggies (conkers).

My favourite school playground game: My favourite playground game was Marbles (booles). How to play: How do you or did you play it? What are the rules? You had to flick a marble with your finger. The aim of the game was to hit other marbles. If you won you took everybody s marbles. It is played competitively, indoors by between 2 and 6 players - boys, aged from 5 years to 9 years.

What you need: Marbles, small glass balls with different colours inside
Special game location, surface or design: You need a flat surface to play on.
There were no special songs or rhymes. (Robert Canavan, 10 years old)
