Saint Mikulas

It is really great to read how
similar some of our festivals and traditions are. Here in Slovakia we celebrate
Saint Mikulas in a very similar way.
Today the streets of the
town were full with children expecting Mikulas to come. And he came. In
a horse driven coach with his suite - the Snow Princess, Angel and Devil.
The kids were singing and dancing and everybody was given a present. In
the villages Mikulas comes to every house to please the children.
In our school we have a special
Mikulas mail where students send one another greetings, small presents
and even the teachers are given small things. I've got a 'lucky pen' to
write only good marks. But everybody had their boots nicely cleaned in
the window or by the door to get something nice.
The winter starts. The mountains
are white with snow there are some patches of snow also in the town and
the country breaths with for coming Christmas. |
