Carnival - The Street Parade
Carnival is a festival, which takes place in February. In Germany there are two days, Carnival's Monday and Shrove Tuesday, on which the big street parades take place.

In every town there is usually a big carnival parade - one for example through the pedestrian precinct in Munich. For this fun festival the people dress up as cowboys, little girls, as ballerinas or princesses. People also like to disguise themselves as witches and clowns.

Most of the carnival parades start at 2 p.m. The crowds line the streets through which the parade will go. There are also many floats in the parade. There are often caricatures of important persons.

On the floats there are people who throw sweets into the crowd. The children try to catch as many sweets as possible. They sometimes do this very well with the help of umbrellas! Altogether carnival is a crazy festival that everybody likes. It is a little similar to Halloween.
