ALBATROSS: First mentioned as "...a DAM statchoo of a DAM DUCK!" (Cerebus #29-30, 39, 41)

ALCHOHOL SANCTION, THE: A law under the Cirinist regime that controls the distribution of alcohol. (Cerebus #164-166)

APOCALYPSE BEAST: A magical creation of great power. They are controlled by the a phrase of the form "All who know ____ shall burn at the touch of the beast...� where the blank may be filled in with any word the creator chooses. Examples include SumpThing and WomanThing. (Cerebus #24-25)

BLACK BLOSSOM LOTUS: A powerful magic talisman created by the wizard Herces for the god-king of Amstanat. It is lost on or about 1361, and doesn't reappear until 1411 (Cerebus #10), but is soon lost again (Cerebus #11). Reappears Cerebus #152, undergoing a strange transformation.

BLOOD WARS:A series of conflicts going on in and around Boreala around 1411 (Cerebus #2).

BUZ: A narcotic compound invented by K'cor. It is one hundred percent addictive, and contains all the food value needed by an adult for one day. Exact formula is only known by K'cor and Sedra.

CALENDAR:

"Shrove Tuesday" (Cerebus #4).

The High Holy Days last "from midwinter to Concordance Eve.

Concordance Eve is the "festival of spring's arrival". Possibly the spring Equinox?

CHATEAU DONTE '21: A *very* potent wine, meant to be taken in small doses (Cerebus #21)

CONCORDANE EVE is stated to be "the festival of spring's arrival" (Cerebus #21), and so is presumably the Spring Equinox. Later, Petuniacon is held during the "Concordance Holy Days", but that's only about three months away. My assumption is that Concordance Holy Days happen at each Solstice and Equinox. The Festival of Petunias is either also held at different times of the year, or is a separate thing entirely from "Petuniacon". The Festival of Petunias just past was about February 1, not a Concordance Day. Given the way Palnu operates, it may well be held on a completely arbitrary basis.

CRAWLER: An octopus-like creature "from the dawn of time, a creature of sorcery" which Death sends to attack Cerebus. It herds victims wiht the Chaos Gem towards Death. Cerebus killed it, however. (Cerebus #4)

ENERGY GLOBES OF IMESH: A series of magical spheres of energy, apparently used as either guardians, or as a gauntlet to test one's skill. They can send out beams of energy at opponents, but these may be absorbed by metal. They are not intelligent. They flare brightly just before striking, and take several seconds to recharge.

EYE OF TERIM: A Borealan legends states, "The Eye of Terim, gold and shining prize -- no mortal shall wrest this gem ... from crimson claw of demon Khem" (Cerebus #2).

"Most precious" of the five Spheres of The Gods (Cerebus #2). After Khem's spell is broken, it appears to be a "tarnished iron sphere", implying that it may not have been the actual Eye of Terim in the first place.

FLAME JEWEL: Said to be flawless and worth a king's ransom. In reality, it was actually an illusion-enhanced walnut - a product of a local wizard's sorcery, not the source of it(Cerebus #1).

GOLD SPHERE: A sphere of pure gold is said to be one of the elements required to make the Final Ascension. Whether the Spheres of the Gods are "Gold Spheres" is uncertain.

HIGH HOLY DAYS: The High Holy Days observed by the Eastern Church of Tarim (possibly the Western as well) last "from midwinter to Concordance Eve... No priest is allowed to eat salted nuts... comment on the weather... or *leave* his place of meditation" (Cerebus #17). From various internal evidence, the High Holy Days must be at least 20 days long.

KHEM: A demon/succubus Cerebus encountered. Allegedly the guardian of the Eye Of Terim, though this may not be true.

It feeds on souls, and uses the captured bodies as sorcerous warriors. When Cerebus somehow broke its spell, the captive souls were freed and their bodies reduced to skeletons.

A Borealan legend: "Within the dark Boreala lies the Eye of Terim, gold and shining prize. No mortal shall wrest the gem from crimson claw of the demon Khem."

This referene of possessing a "crimson claw" may have something to do with the Red Claw terrorists in the Cockroach's origins.

At the time of the "Great Change", it realizes the purposelessness of its existence (now that its spell has been broken by Cerebus) and apparently self-destructs (Cerebus #2, 151).

MONEY: The earliest dated coins were "minted more than fourteen centuries before" (Cerebus #152). Quite likely, these were the ones first invented by "Tarim" (Cerebus #91). This further implies that the failed ascension on that occasion is when the current calendar begins.

In 1411, 20 gold pieces are enough for "a few months of comfortable living" for Cerebus in a major city. "In Tcapmin, one could live for three years as a king!" (Cerebus #10).

Some Tcapmin mercenaries are seen gambling with triangular coins.

Olniu soldiers were paid by the government a wage of 20 copper bits a month, out of which they were required to "kick-back" a great percentage for food, lodgings and other necessities. As a consequence, the Olniu soldier might have only three bits left for betting after the expenses were paid." (Cerebus #27).

NAMA LOTUS BLOSSOMS: A hallucinogenic flower, used as a weapon by the Flame Jewel wizard. It confuses thoughts, distorts perception (Cerebus #1).

PENTAZIN: A swift, flavorless toxin native to Eshnospur (Cerebus #14).

PETUNIACON: "Petuniacon" is presumably the same as the Festival of Petunias that was held in Palnu (Cerebus #16).

SKELETONS: Created by the Flame Jewel wizard. They have sorcery-spawned speed. Cerebus knew his only was to defeat the was to stay out of reach and wait for an opening (Cerebus #1).

SHADOW BEASTS: Created by the Flame Jewel wizard. Several shadows grew and merged into one massie shadow. Each sword slash Cerebus gave it created a line of light through it, stunning the creature. With it's "death", it became just another shadow (Cerebus #1).

SERPENT DRAGON: Illusion created by the Flame Jewel wizard. Keeping his eyes closed, Cerebus neither felt or heard the illision, and so bypassed this obstacle completely (Cerebus #1).

SUCCUBUS: It's energy is like fingers which probe the mind, rending, searching for a soul. Cerebus is the first person in centuries to break its spell, to see the Succubus's true form.

WOMAN-THING: An Apocalypse Beast created by Claremont. Woman-Thing was a large shambling green monster who burned people to death if they showed any fear. (Cerebus #24-25).

WYNDMEL DIAMOND, THE: A large (and extremely valuable diamond. Stolen by E'Laas. (Cerebus #16, 28)
