1988 Fisher Montare (BIKE HAS SOLD)

Updated 88 Montare photo
This is the first vintage bike I got in 2005 and the one which got me into collecting.  This model pre-dates the Trek purchase of Fisher's company (around 1995).  It has only "Fisher" on the downtube, vs. bikes made after about 1990, which had "Gary Fisher" on the tube.  It also still has the "Mountain Bikes" logo on the headtube

Features and components:
Rigid steel frame: made in Japan
Shimano Deore thumb shifters with early index shifting (rear only)
Deore front cantilever brakes
Deore rear U-Brake
6 rear cogs (18 ratios total)
Deore XT crankset with Biopace chainrings
Deore XT rear derailleur
Deore front detailleur
Araya RM-20 silver rims on Deore hubs

When I got the bike, it was dirty, but complete.  It appeared to be mostly original except it had a Specialized handlebar and a non-matching crankset.  The left crankarm was Sugino and the right was Sakae.  Even the original Fisher seat was in place, but in really bad shape.

Work I've done:

+ Thorough cleaning and tuning

+
Installed a period-correct Deore XT M-730 Biopace crankset.
+ Installed Hutchison Python Air Light tires
+ Installed a newer Gary Fisher logo saddle which happens to be comfy
+ Installed Deore pedals (bike came with Sakae pedals in bad shape)

Here are some photos taken after I cleaned and tuned the bike (July 2005):
