JUAN MIGUEL RIVERA BONDOC is the full name of the Philippine's hottest teen idol of the 90's. Onemig, as he is popularly known, got his unique nickname from his mother, Milo Rivera Bondoc, as he was her first born - thus, ONE MIG.
Being the eldest in a brood of four, Onemig was initially geared in following footsteps of his father Mariano Bondoc, Jr. a successful businessman. He had already been helping out and learning what he could from his father's stock brokerage when stardom took him and several thousand fans by storm. At the age of seventeen he signed a nine picture deal with Philippine Motion Picture Titan VIVA Films and was introduced in Villa Quintana and T.G.I.S., two of television's top rated shows. The birth of a second career emerged.
Being a part of the world of show business may have been inevitable for Onemig since it runs in the blood. Respected actress Mila del Sol, TV personality Jeanne Young and former model turned actress Monette Rivera are close relatives. The dream of one day being an actor had been a thought Onemig had been pondering on since his early teen years when he became active as a commercial model.
Within a span of five years Onemig emerged as one of the country's top commercial models. Discovered at age 13 by his Manager, Louie Aguinaldo, Onemig made his mark as the youngest lead ever in the popular Close-Up toothpaste advertising campaign by the time he was 14 years old. At present he has done over seventeen TV commercials and print ads for some of the most respectable brands in the market.
A favorite of advertisers for beauty products, Onemig has appeared as leading man to the female leads for Palmolive Soap, Camay Soap, Oil of Olay, and Ivory Soap and Shampoo. Notable among these were his being leading man to multi-media star Vina Morales in the Oil of Olay commercial and to gorgeous Bianca Revilla Araneta in the Ivory Shampoo MTV featuring Geneva Cruz "Ang Gaan Ng Feeling."
Fast-food giant, Jolibee has had fondness for Onemig and has used him for four advertising projects in a span of two years. Onemig has appeared in two of their TV commercials including the catchy "Jo-jolibee kami, jo-join kayo" as, a photo calendar and a photo mural that the graces one of their largest mall outlets. Other advertisers have include Eveready, Del Monte 202, Mister Donut, Ayala Center and Beeper 150.
Onemig spent most of his high school and grade school at La Salle Greenhills. He left the country and finished his high school at Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada. It was upon his return to the Philippines that his dream of becoming an actor became a reality. His early stints were being mainstays in Villa Quintana, Ober Da Bakod, and T.G.I.S. TV Giant ABS-CBN also featured him in their MTV for Radio Romance and guested him in a number of their shows.
After Onemig's first six months in showbiz his climb to popularity began to noticeably increase. Within a span of three months he had appeared on the cover of thirty magazines thus earning him the title of "magazine superstar", as some writers had called him. His first two movies, together with the T.G.I.S. gang, were hits. His first love team with T.G.I.S. co-star Angelou de Leon won a legion of fans. Then it was Ciara Sotto, the wholesome daughter of Senator Tito Sotto and finally, Donna Cruz, when the whole gang, after outgrowing T.G.I.S., graduated into another TV series Growing Up shown on Wednesdays.
Being deluged with a constant flood of fan mail reflects the growing army of Onemig's admirers. his first fans day which was held on September 15, 1996 ( his first year anniversary in showbiz ) drew a crowd of over 4,000 people. His series of Provincial shows continue to amass multitudes of screaming fans. His last fans day on the ABS-CBN show "Showbiz Lingo" drew around 5,000 screaming fans at SM Fairview.
