We are just a few days into the Hundred, but it has certainly grabbed all the attention in English cricket. In fact, it will be safe to say that the Hundred has even taken away a massive share from English domestic cricket. Up next in the tournament, Welsh Fire are set to take on Southern Brave in a match that will be of high importance for both these sides. The match is to be played on 27th July 2021 at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
Even though Welsh Fire are placed in the middle part of the points table, they will be brimming with confidence. They have played just one match in the tournament thus far and another win here will take them to the top of the ladder. They currently have two points with a net run-rate of 0.250, which can come in handy should things get tight at the back end of the league stage.
Welsh Fire narrowly survived a scare from Northern Superchargers in their opening match as despite putting up a mammoth total of 173 on the board, they allowed the Superchargers in the hunt. Had it not been their death batting, Welsh Fire would have ended up with a different result.
On paper, they have a decent side with a terrific batting unit that goes deep and a decent bowling attack. Besides, they are coming off a win and should be brimming with confidence. Beating them would not be an easy task for Southern Brave in this upcoming match.
Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, GD Phillips, James Neesham, IA Cockbain, MJJ Critchley, Josh Cobb, Qais Ahmad, Jake Ball, David Payne.
Southern Brave have just played one match up until now, but they failed to get any traction going in that match. While they are stranded at the bottom of the points table at the moment, they will not be too concerned. Having said that, they would need to register a win here in this contest so as to stay well with the rest of the pack.
At the moment, Southern Brave has a net run rate of -1.444, which is too bad even for a team that has played just one match. Not only will they want to get a couple of points in the next match, they'll also want to improve their net run-rate.
Southern Brave were dismal in both departments of their game in the last match as they were restricted to a paltry score first-up and then failed to put any sort of pressure whatsoever on Trent Rockets' batsmen. On paper, they have a decent side consisting of some of the best batsmen of the game. With Devon Conway and James Vince, they have a terrific opening pair that can take down even the best in the business. Their bowling attack looks settled as well. Given the team they have, it would be safe to assume that they'll do a better job in the upcoming match than they did in the previous match.
James Vince, Quinton de Kock, Devon Conway, Alex Davies, Colin de Grandhomme, Ross Whiteley, Chris Jordan, Craig Overton, Danny Briggs, Tymal Mills, Jake Lintott.
While Welsh Fire have the momentum, they do not have the firepower at the top that Southern Brave have. Comparing the two sides on paper, we would be placing our bets on a Welsh Fire win and so should you.
