After an exciting tussle among eight sides in the CSA T20 Challenge league stage that lasted for just around two weeks, we are finally into the business end of the tournament. The four best sides have made it to the semi-finals and hereon it is going to be only a matter of two good performances to claim the title.
Up next in the tournament, Titans and Dolphins are set to take on each other in the first semifinal of the competition. With a spot in the finale up for grabs, both sides are expected to come out all guns blazing here. The match is to be played at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.
The Titans are one of the most successful sides in the history of South Africa's domestic circuit and they showed their mettle in this edition of the tournament as well. Even though they didn't get off to the kind of start to the tournament they were looking for, losing their opening game against the Warriors, they were brilliant henceforth.
In their next six matches, the Titans looked hungry and were fierce in their approach. They won all of their matches after a defeat in the first match and ended up at the top of the points table with 24 points to their name at the end of the league stage. They not only won six out of seven matches, they also had a net run rate of 0.751, which was the best amongst all sides.
The Titans are coming off a strong 33-run win over North West Dragons and will be looking to build on the momentum. Batting first against the Dragons, the Titans looked in complete control right from the outset as Quinton de Kock and Theunis de Bruyn provided them with a fantastic start. They did experience a few hiccups in the middle-overs, but they still managed to put up a commanding total of 167, which proved to be a little too hard for the Dragons to chase. Aaron Phangiso, Ayabulela Gqamane, and Dewald Brevis were particularly impressed with the ball as they each picked up a couple of wickets.
On paper, the Titans have a team as good as any. The presence of Quinton de Kock and Theunis de Bruyn is more often than not intimidating for the opponents' bowlers. They have an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience in both departments of the game. With the side they have on paper and the momentum they have, Titans cannot be taken lightly. If they are able to play to their potential, getting past them is going to be exceedingly difficult.
Theunis de Bruyn, Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, Dewald Brevis, Sibonelo Makhanya, Donavon Ferreira, Ayabulela Gqamane, Aaron Phangiso, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lizaad Williams, Junior Dala.
Just like the Titans, the Dolphins didn't get off to a particularly convincing start to the tournament but picked up pace in the back-end of the league stage to stay in the reckoning right throughout. They eventually finished at the third spot on the ladder with a total of 17 points to their name coupled with a superb net run rate of 0.551.
The Dolphins are coming off a superb 65-run over Western Province, who have been the second-best side in the competition so far. While the Dolphins weren't particularly impressed with the bat as they managed a modest total of just 148, they did a spectacular job with the ball. They dismantled Western Province for a total of just 83 runs, winning the match by 65 runs. With almost everyone contributing with the ball, it was a complete effort from the Dolphins to ensure a win that played an important role in their qualification for the semifinal.
On paper, the Dolphins have a decent side with the likes of Keegan Petersen, Khaya Zondo, and Andile Phehlukwayo available. However, they have been far from being consistent in the tournament so far and that is one primary thing that they'll need to take care of in their upcoming matches. They have a very capable side that is full of match-winners and if they can play to their potential, getting past them could prove to be a very steep climb.

This is an important match between the two sides with the prize being a spot in the final. Dolphins have lacked inconsistency in execution and that will be playing on their minds while taking the field. The Titans, on the other hand, not only have an immaculately balanced side but have also been superb with execution in their last six matches. Considering that and the other factors stated above, the Titans definitely appear ahead. Back Titans to register a win here and storm their way into the grand finale.
