With Sri Lanka registering a massive win over England in the ongoing Road Safety World Series, the situation at the points table is pretty clear. India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa are certain to qualify and the battle now remains for the lone spot. The next game in the tournament is going to be inconsequential as far as qualification for the playoffs is concerned. The match is to be played between Bangladesh Legends and South Africa Legends on 15th March 2021 at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur.
South Africa may not have done as well as they would have liked to, but they have done just enough to get to the next round. Not that they have qualified, they would want to gather some momentum before meeting their opponents in the second semifinal. In five completed matches, South Africa have won three and lost two. They have 12 points to their name with a net run-rate of -0.531.
South Africa appeared to be cruising before they met India in the last match. They did reasonably well against India as well, but the masterful knocks by Yuvraj Singh and Sachin Tendulkar took the game away from the Proteas. With the bat as well, South Africa looked fairly in the game when Andrew Puttick and Morne van Wyk were batting, but they lost track when the acceleration was so desperately required.
Chasing a total of 204, South Africa got to a terrific start with Puttick and van Wyk adding 87 runs for the first wicket. However, once they were dismissed, the Proteas failed to score quickly against the spinners. Their lack of comfort against the spinners was truly apparent and this is one vulnerability that Bangladesh will be looking to exploit as well. Earlier with the ball, South Africa did well on a surface that was a beauty to bat on.
On paper, South Africa have a decent team with a good amalgamation of talent and experience. They have shown their potency in the recent results and if they can handle the spinners well in this upcoming fixture, beating them is going to be a tough job for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table and rightly so given the way they have performed in the tournament so far. Their net run-rate of -2.657 illustrates how terrible they have been in all the matches they have played. From a total of four matches, Bangladesh have won zero matches and are no longer in the race to qualify for the next round. They'll be looking for a consolation win and getting that is not going to be easy for them.
Bangladesh started off their campaign with a landslide loss at the hands of India and could never really recover from that. In the last match, Bangladesh's batting found form for the first time, but their bowling was terrible to make any dent whatsoever on West Indies' well-planned chase. Batting first, Bangladesh's top-order did reasonably well, but none of their batsmen could go on to score a big one. Also, lack of execution at the back end of the innings pulled their total back, which at one time seemed to be heading towards more like 180.
With the ball, however, they gave away too many loose deliveries and that allowed West Indies to get to the total of 169 with more than an over to spare. Most of their bowlers were either too expensive or didn't bowl consistently in probing areas. This is one mistake that we have seen Bangladesh's bowlers do regularly in the series so far.
On paper, Bangladesh really do not have as much firepower as few of the other teams have. One major advantage they likely have over the non-Asian teams is the presence of experienced spinners, but they too haven't been able to utilize the conditions up until now. Bangladesh, so far, have grossly underperformed and would want to finally get it going in their final match of the series. If they can play to their potential, South Africa are certainly going to find facing Bangladesh a lot more difficult than it has been for the other teams in the tournament.

The path forward in the tournament is pretty much already decided for both sides and this match is a mere formality now. Having said that, a win here could help South Africa a long way considering how important momentum could be in the shortest format of the game. On paper and on performance, South Africa have a better side between the two and will be looking to assert their dominance over Bangladesh as well. For the reasons stated above, we believe that betting on a South Africa win should be the way to go here.
