Women's Super Smash 2021 may not be as followed as the men's version of the tournament, it is nonetheless getting exciting with every passing game. While Otago Storm Women and Wellington Women are running away at the top of the ladder, the competition is growing intense among the four teams placed at the bottom of the ladder.
In a quest to stay at the top, Otago Storm Women are now set to take on Auckland Hearts Women in what is expected to be a cracker of a contest. The match between the two sides is to be played at John Davies Oval, Queenstown on 29th October 2021.
Otago Storm Women have been one of the best sides of the tournament so far and their position on the ladder clearly reflects that. As it currently stands, Otago Storm Women are placed at the second spot on the ladder with five wins from six matches. They are currently tied on points with Wellington Women who are at the top, but a win here will move Otago to the top spot and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.
Otago Storm are coming off a massive defeat at the hands of Wellington Women and will be eager to bounce back to the winning way. Even though they seem to be pretty well settled as far as progression to the next round is concerned, a win here will certainly strengthen their chances.
Chasing a total of 157, Storm Women could not hold their nerves to maintain the required scoring rate as almost all of their batsmen perished while playing attacking shots. Barring Suzie Bates and Katey Martin, none of their batsmen managed to score even in double digits - so poor was their batting. We saw four ducks scored by Storm in total and that would certainly have left them deflated.
On paper, Otago Storm have one of the best sides in the tournament, especially with the experience of Suzie Bates available at the top. Also, they would be pretty happy with the kind of performances they have put in the competition. They'll need to put behind their last match's performance and if they can do that, they will be one dangerous side to deal with.

Auckland Hearts started off their campaign in a fantastic manner by registering a big win in their very first match. They followed that up with yet another win over Northern Districts to move to the third spot on the ladder. However, they have not done anything substantial since then, losing both their subsequent matches. They will be under tremendous pressure to get back to the winning ways and will be coming all guns blazing in this upcoming match.
As it currently stands on the ladder, Auckland Hearts have won two matches from a total of four played, aggregating eight points in total. They still have a decent net run rate of 0.036, which could come in handy in the back-end of the league stage.
Chasing a rather modest total of 127 in their previous match, it was rather surprising to see Auckland Hearts managing to put up just 113 runs for the loss of six wickets. We saw almost all of their middle-order batsmen contribute, but none of them was able to grab by game by the scruff of its neck and take the Hearts through to a win.
Holly Huddleston will undoubtedly be Auckland Hearts' biggest force in this upcoming match against the Storm. She has been brilliant in both departments up until now, contributing big and doing so consistently. The likes of Katie Perkins and Lauren Down have done well too and it would be important for Auckland Hearts to come with their full force in this upcoming match. If the Hearts are able to play with their full on-paper potential, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.

Although there will be some uncertainties surrounding the surface, no team would want to chase a mammoth total. This is a ground that has short boundaries and batsmen once set will enjoy batting. We believe that both sides would want to put up a big score and consequently put pressure on the team batting second. Expect the captain winning the toss to bat first.

Situated near Lake Wakatipu, this is one of the most picturesque venues in New Zealand. This is a venue that doesn't host too many matches and there will be plenty of uncertainty when the two teams take the field on Thursday. Like most other venues in New Zealand, this venue too features short boundaries and a true surface. The ball should come onto the bat nicely and playing through the line and on the up should be easy. A total of around 150 would be a par score and the team batting first should be happy with any score over that.

This is an important match given the state the points table is in. A win for Otago Storm Women will make their progression chances easier by a massive amount whereas a win for Auckland Hearts will bring them back to the winning ways. There is a vital significance of a win for both these sides and we expect them both to come out all guns blazing. Considering the form and on-paper combinations of both these sides, betting on an Otago Storm Women win should be the way to go here.
Holly Huddleston has been in terrific form for the Hearts and will hold the key to the fortunes for her side. Although she has done incredibly well with the bat too, her primary skill is bowling. She bowls in the powerplay and at the death thereby having enough opportunity to pick up wickets. Bet on Huddleston to be the best bowler of the day for the Hearts.
Suzie Bates is not only the most experienced player amongst the two sides combined, she has also been in terrific touch in the tournament. She has looked good whenever she has batted and is coming off a decent outing. This is an important match and we expect her to play with a lot more responsibility. A bet on Bates to be the best batsman of the day for Storm seems to be a pretty lucrative proposition.
