The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 is all set for an exciting finish with all four semi finalists coming off fantastic runs in their respective matches. We have two teams who were not really expected to make it to the semis before the tournament started and that has made things even more interesting.
In the first semi-final of the competition, we will see Himachal Pradesh locking horns with Services in what is expected to be a cracker of a contest. The match between the two sides is to be played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on 24th December 2021.
Himachal Pradesh do not have a history of titles and were nowhere near the favorites when the competition started, but have certainly grown into a formidable force as the competition has progressed. The upcoming game is not going to be an easy one for them, but they will be pretty confident of going all the way with the form they are in.
Himachal Pradesh just managed to sneak into the knockouts on the back of a superb net run rate at the end of the group stage. Although they topped their group, with three wins from five matches, they were tied with three other teams on points. Himachal Pradesh have been riding on their strong top-order thus far and that is going to be a key in this upcoming contest as well.
In their previous match, which was against Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh did a splendid job in keeping their nerve despite not being a side as experienced as UP. Bowling first on a surface that had a bit of assistance for the bowlers, their bowlers bowled in tight channels and gave only a little away. They were eventually able to pick up wickets at regular intervals and restricted UP to a total of 207.
It wasn't an easy total to chase down against a bowling unit as good as UP's, but the way the likes of Prashant Chopra and Nikhil Gangta soaked in the pressure was exceptional. They would be needed to do something similar in this upcoming match as well. Rishi Dhawan failed to get off the mark in the previous match, but he had been a force with the bat in the matches prior.
All in all, Himachal Pradesh may have had a lot of limitations before the tournament started, they have not been a deciding factor up until now. Their senior players have taken up bottom-line responsibility to guide the team and that has paid off. They do lack experience of playing in big matches, but if they are able to play to their potential, they should sail through to an easy win in this upcoming match too.

The significance of even a spot in the top-four for Services can be well understood by the fact that they have never ever qualified for a semi-final in the history of the tournament before. It's not that they managed to sneak into the knockouts with a fluke. They were terrific in the group stage and then followed that up with a remarkable win over Kerala in the quarter-final.
At the end of the group stage, Services finished with four wins in five matches, aggregating 16 points in total. In the quarter-final, they were completely over Kerala as they not only dismissed them for a sub-par total, but also chased that down with plenty of resources left.
Bowling first on a surface that had only a little assistance for the bowlers, Diwesh Pathania was terrific upfront as he removed Mohammad Azharudden and Jalaj Saxena in quick succession. Rahul Singh and Abhishek Tiwari then strangled Kerala in the middle-overs as they kept things tight and picked up a few important wickets in the process. Kerala were eventually restricted for a total of 175, which Services chased with considerable ease. Ravi Chauhan and Mumtaz Qadir were the pick of their batsmen as they both registered an enterprising fifty each.
Form-wise, Services could not have hoped for anything better going into this upcoming contest. On paper, however, they do lack experience and that could prove to be a factor in this high-voltage contest. Services have the talent to topple any given side on their day and if they are able to hold their nerve in crunch situations, getting past them could be a difficult task even for high-flying Himachal Pradesh.
Ravi Chauhan, Mohit Ahlawat, Lakhan Singh, Pulkit Narang, Pal Raj Bahadur, Diwesh Pathania, Devender Lohchab, Rahul Singh, Rajat Paliwal, Gahlaut Rahul Singh, Abhishek Tiwari.
Both matches at this venue in the quarters were won by the team batting second and that happened because of various different reasons. In this match as well, those reasons will be valid and both skippers will be wary of those. The surface is only going to get better with the passage of the match and we expect the captain winning the toss to bat first.

The surface at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur turned out to be a little on the slower side in the first quarter-final here and we expect the surface to play similar to what we saw the other day. If anything, both sides will know how the conditions are likely to be and can adapt accordingly. This is a day game and there will be a bit of extra assistance for the quicker bowlers in the first half-an-hour. Considering that and how the things happened in the previous match here, the team batting first would be pretty satisfied if they are able to put a total of at least 260 runs on the board.

This is a high-stakes encounter and adrenaline will be running high for both these sides. On the form, there is a little to separate the two sides. Experience is going to be a key factor and Himachal Pradesh certainly edge Services in that department. They also appear to be a slightly better balanced side between the two and, therefore, are our pick as the favorites for this upcoming match.
With a fifty and a hundred in his last two matches respectively, Prashant Chopra is in excellent form and has a cool head on his shoulders. He has plenty of experience behind him and that can come in handy in this high-pressure match. We expect Prashant Chopra to be the best batsman of the day for Himachal Pradesh.
Just like Chopra, Nikhil Gangta is coming into this match on the back of a fantastic knock. He is someone who can deal equally well with spinners as well as seamers and that will be his strength in the upcoming contest. Also, as seen in the last two matches, he is more than capable of clearing the ropes. Bet on Nikhil Gangta to score a fifty in this upcoming fixture.
