IPL has undoubtedly taken away a lot of limelight from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but India's lesser-known domestic tournament has still not lost its shine. We are into the knockout stage already and things are going to only get interesting from here.
The next match in the competition is to be played between Himachal Pradesh and Kerala and that is expected to be a cracker of an encounter. The match is to be played at Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Ground, Delhi on November 16th 2021.
Himachal Pradesh have never been the favorites in the history of the competition and they weren't here in this edition either. Having said that, they have done an excellent job up in the tournament till now and will be looking to go all the way with wins in their next few matches.
On the points table, they finished with three wins to their name, accumulating 12 points in total. As their net run rate of -0.260 suggests, they did manage to go through to the next round, but they were not as dominating as they would have wanted to be.
On paper, Himachal Pradesh have a decent side that rely heavily on Rishi Dhawan. Rishi Dhawan is their most experienced player, who has done well with bat as well as the ball. Himachal Pradesh would need a solid effort from Rishi Dhawan along with the support from the other players and if that happens, they would be fancying their chances.
Raghav Dhawan, Prashant Chopra, Nikhil Gangta, Akash Vasisht, Rishi Dhawan, Ayush Jamwal, Pankaj Jaswal, Mayank Dagar, Digvijay Rangi, Ankush Bains, Vaibhav Arora.
Kerala finished at the second spot on the ladder and will want to fare a lot better in the knockouts. With an experienced skipper in Sanju Samson, Kerala have a point to prove. Kerala happened to be behind only Gujarat on the ladder as they finished with 16 points coming with four wins and a net run rate of 0.511.
Kerala rode heavily on the brilliance of Sanju Samson and Sachin Baby as they both scored truckloads of runs and that too consistently. They will be Kerala's major threat in the upcoming match and in the matches to follow. It all depends on how their top two players do in the upcoming match and if they are able to play to their potential, Himachal Pradesh would have their work cut out.
Unnikrishnan Manukrishnan, Basil Thampi, Jalaj Saxena, Sanju Samson, Akhil M S, Sudhesan Midhun, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Vishnu Vinod, Sachin Baby, Rohan Kunnummal, Vishweshwar A Suresh.
This is a battle between two sides that are over-reliant on only a few of their players. While Himachal Pradesh had Rishi Dhawan doing the bulk of the job for them, it was the pair of Sanju Samson and Sachin Baby for Kerala. It is going to be a tight match, but with experience on their side, we would be placing our bets on a Kerala win and so should you.
