Big Bash League 2021 is still in its initial phase, but the way the tournament is progressing, it is appearing similar to how it progressed in the last edition. Just like their run in the last season, Brisbane Heat are languishing at the bottom of the points table and will be desperate to get off the mark on the board.
Up next in the tournament, Brisbane Heat are set to take on Melbourne Renegades in the bottom-drawer encounter, which will be played on 13th December 2021. The match is to be played at the Carrara Oval, Carrara.
Brisbane Heat did a fantastic job last year as they managed to rise from the bottom of the ladder to almost a slot in the final. Having already lost two matches, they are placed at the bottom of the points table and will be desperate to get some points under their belt. This might well be the best chance they are going to get in recent times.
Brisbane Heat have a decent side, but they are yet to unleash their full potential. That is also one of the reasons for their sub-optimal performance in the competition. Chris Lynn has not been fired yet, but the likes of Ben Duckett and Sam Heazlett have. Other than those two as well, Brisbane Heat's middle-order looks formidable.
On the bowling front as well, Brisbane Heat look a capable side. They have lacked execution, but have shown signs of brilliance. If their batsmen and bowlers are both able to step up their game, even by a little, beating Brisbane Heat is going to be a difficult encounter.
Chris Lynn, Max Bryant, Ben Duckett, Sam Heazlett, TB Abell, Jimmy Peirson, James Bazley, Xavier Bartlett, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Liam Guthrie.
Melbourne Renegades finished at the bottom of the ladder and even though they got off to a terrific start, their campaign is appearing to be less than sublime at the moment. After scoring a close win over the Strikers, they succumbed to a big loss in their subsequent match, which also highlighted their vulnerabilities with the bat.
As it currently stands, Melbourne Renegades are placed at the seven spot on the ladder and will need to do something special to get back into the rhythm, at least with the bat. They were bowled out for a total of exactly a hundred in their last match, even though the surface did not have any demons in it.
On paper, the Renegades are still without their top two batsmen in Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh. On the bowling front, however, they have surprisingly impressed one and all with Kane Richardson and Zahir Khan doing pretty well. Apart from them as well, they have the likes of Reece Topley, James Pattinson, and Mohammad Nabi in the side. If the Renegades are able to play to their potential, they will be a massive threat even without their key players.
Sam Harper, Mackenzie Harvey, Nic Maddinson, James Seymour, Jake Fraser McGurk, Mohammad Nabi, Will Sutherland, Jack Prestwidge, Kane Richardson, Reece Topley, Zahir Khan.
It is an important match between the two sides as a win here can kickstart the campaign of the winners. A loss, however, will further put the losing team in the hole. While Renegades have a terrific bowling unit, their batting has looked dismal. Heat, on the other hand, have a better balance between the two departments. For that and the other reasons stated above, betting on a Heat win should be the way to go here.
