Kurseong came into prominence as a hill station on August 23rd. 1880. On this date the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway connection from Siliguri (45 kms) was finally completed. Kurseong became the headquarters of this sub-division from where the administration, eventually completed the extension to Darjeeling, 32 kms. further up the mountain.
Kurseong (altitude 4,860 ft.) famous as the "Land of the white Orchids", surrounded by tea gardens and a breathtaking view of the picturesque landscape. Visitors will remember and talk of their delightful stop here long after they have returned home.
Like most hill stations, Kurseong has its share of beautiful scenery everywhere you go. One of its unique features is the sharing of its main thoroughfare by both train and motor vehicle both rolling along within a few feet of each other.
