Comments:
Am writing a history of The Great SNAFU Fleet; 1st Combat Cargo Squadron & 344th Airdrome Squadron which were combined in Sep 45 as the 326 Troop Carrier Squadron. The 326th is now an Air Force Reserve C-5 unit at Dover AFB. Combat Cargo units were in 10A from June 44 to Sep 45, supplying American and British units in Burma and China. I have a book I am trying to get published but have very limited means. Am hopeful there is a university press out there who will take a chance on the unknown units of comba cargo in the forgotten theater of the CBI. Estimate sales of 1500 - 2500 if published. If anyone knows of an interested publisher, please let me know. If you have information on the 1st CCS/344 AS/326 TCS or desire same, please contact me. Thanks!

My father was an engineer aboard a cargo plane which "flew the hump". Like many of the other guys who were on this job, as I can tell from reading the notes in the site, he didn't talk about it much. He had lots of pictures of India, and talked mostly of the fun he had with the other members of his crew. He did say that they never bothered to wear parachutes because if the plane went down with a full load of cargo, there wasn't much chance of getting out before it crashed. He told my sister Betty about coming home from a mission and finding a menacing monkey in his bunk, and scared the hell out of the animal, he was so tired and pent up. Anyway, I would really love to find someone who may have flown with him or known him. I don't have much detail about what squadron he was in, etc. I do know that he recieved the Distinguished Flying Cross and few other medals. He never made much of these. I often wonder what it must have been like for a 20 year old guy to fly in one of those crates over the Himalaya Mountains!

Gentlemen: I represent the Stillwater Airport Memorial Museum of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Over the past seven years, I've been writing a book about the 475 combat aircraft that were scrapped at our airfield immediately after World War Two. For your informa ion, 228 of these airplanes were Consolidated B-24 Liberator heavy bombers. Many saw combat during the war. According to my records, one was assigned to the 10th Air Force: B-24D 41-24098 of the 7th Bomb Group, 9th Bomb Squadron. I'm writing in regards to obtaining information and photographs for publication concerning this particular Liberator. Also, I'd like to establish contact with its crew members to collect for posterity their memories about this aircraft. Any assistance you can give my organiza ion will be greatly appreciated. This is a great site, I recently uncovered my late father's military artifacts and am looking for information on finding his unit. All I have to go on is his name (Fred J. He never talked about the war, but I know he was in China and India. My mom remembered he had a lot of medals on his uniform and that he was injured while in India. Anyone with se rch ideas will be welcome. I may be searching down the wrong road. I would like to discover what it was he never talked about. Thank you for your help.

It's great to find a site dedicated to the 10th and especially (for me personally) the 89th. My dad was a Banshee and is the guy who designed the skull/ace logo (I have an original hand-painted one on the wall behind me!)...Freeling Clower. Dad is still a ive and well and now 80 years old. He always gets a chuckle from the symbology attributed to the skull logo. He says it wasn't so much that the "clouds symbolize such and such and the skull this or that"...it was really a bunch of very young men looking f r a cool squadron logo! And these same young men flew, fought and indeed served their country in some of the worst conditions of the war and in a theatre that is still overshadowed by what went on in Europe and Pacific theatres. I'm extremely glad this web site exists. It's about time these pilots and ground crews got the recognition they deserve.

My last visit was in October of 98. You should be very proud of this tribute to the 10th air force and the nomads that made up it's cadre and their experiences at the end of the world in World War II. From Delhi, Barrackport and Belvedere in India to Kanjikoah in Assam, we went to Myitkyina and Bhamo in Burma, then back to Piardoba in India for refitting before heading across the hump to Kunming and Liuchow in China where we were getting ready for a possible invasion of forces into china through Canton China as a diversion from the main Japanese invasion when good ole Harry had the intestinal fortitude to drop the big ones on Japan. Then to Shanghia for some good duty until we disbanded and headed home spending Christmas and New Year on a ship( I can't recall the ship but I can certainly recall the party we had to celebrate the wake of the end of the 10th air force. It was a great ride. Thanks again for this tribute to the 10th Air Force. To all our comrades who didn't make it back. May they all be resting a little better. It seems a lot of their children haven't forgotten th

Military Unit: 1213th MP

Comments:
Very nice website! My dad served in the 10th as an MP, mostly in Ledo. He has very interesting stories of snakes, bats, rogue elephants, water buffalo wandering onto runways, along with the "normal" horror stories of army life. His unit, the 1213th MP, is having a reuion in July near Canton, OH. I'm thinking of scanning some photos for the guys and setting up a website of my own as a tribute to them. Probably will involve some photos and stories. I'll have it ready by July 4. If anyone has any other info on the 1213th, please contact me at [email protected].. And to all you guys who served there, my hat's off to you! Tom Maas

My father was a crew chief on C-47's. As far as I know he was in Burma and India between Nov 44 & Dec 45. He often spoke of flying the "HUMP" and of friends by the name of "Boots" Resons of TN & Lloyd Olsen of ND. If anyone knows of his air group or kne him I would be honored to hear from you. My Dad died in June of '84.

My Dad, Bill(Willy) Hunter was assigned to the CBI from May 10, 1942 until October 16, 1943. He was a SSgt radio operator flying in C-47 transports, transporting Burmese troops and supplies. I am not sure that the Unit listed above was in the 10th AF or if it was the unit he was assigned to in India. If anyone has any information that would assist me I would be eternally grateful. this is an absolutely wonderful website. Thanks
