Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bagnell, KI Treasurer and scheduled to become International President in 1999 visited the club on 29 May. The day before, they went to the Westman Islands. In the morning of the 25th, when they had planned to fly back to make the Brú's meeting, the flight had been cancelled due to weather.
With a few minutes notice, they managed to get the ferry back to the mainland, and escorted by Arnór L. Pálsson, Past District Governor of Iceland-Faroes District, presently the Chairman of District's Committee for Law, Regulations and Resolutions and a member of club Eldey, they managed to drive (in the air Mr. Bagnell said) the muddy and rocky coastline road from Þorlákshöfn through Krísuvík and Grindavík to the base, where they arrived about 20 minutes into the meeting. We are sure they will never forget "air-ground" travelling in Iceland!
At the meeting Mr. Bagnell noted that the Keflavík branch of Kiwanis was a supreme example of the interaction between different cultures, as the members of Brú are of so many nationalities.

He also explained how in a five-year period, the UNICEF and Kiwanis will supply iodized salt as a means to promote the iodine consumption throughout the world. The meeting went way over the normal meeting time, because so many question where asked by members about the KI and his duties in office. Mr. and Mrs. Bagnell stopped at Keflavík on their way to Europe for a Kiwanis-Europe convention in Norway.
Glen Bagnell's visit to the Kiwanis Club Brú was well covered with interviews both in the NBS Television News-at-Six and a cover story in the White Falcon, the NAS Keflavík weekly newspaper. The club wishes him all the best in his duties of KI Treasurer and as Kiwanis International President. From what we have experienced, we know, that he will be a great successor in all his duties. We also like to thank Arnór L. Pálsson for his smart-thinking of taking Mr. and Mrs. Bagnell on the Ferry and drive the back-road to Keflavík to catch the meeting. This shows how difficulties can be solved with right people in the right places. Thank you and good luck Glen!
