The �losange�:

  1. The type number of the car
  2. The chassisnumber
  3. The last two digits of the modelyear (1974 onwards)

The oval:

oval type plate
  1. The type number of the car
    The first 3 digits indicate the main group, the last the engine type.
  2. From mil�sime 1973 onwards:
    The first digit designates the gearbox-type,
    the second digit indicates a special.
  3. The equipment number, depending on the country

  4. From mil�sime 1973 onwards, the extra equipment that has been installed at the factory, like rear window demister, tinted windows.
  5. The build number
  6. For some countries, the modelyear (mil�sime)

Paint numbers

The paint number is indicated on the front right wheel arch.

The number consists of:
1 - A letter, indicating the type of paint;
2 - A number, indicating the manufacturer;
3 - A letter, indicating the assembly-plant where painted;
4 - One or more dots, indicating the production line;
5 - Three numbers, indicating the colour.

Ad. 1: Type of paint:
A = Acrylic
C = Cellulose
S = Synthetic

Ad. 2: Manufacturer
1 = Renault
2 = Nitrolac
3 = Valentine
4 = Ripolin
5 = Duco
6 = Villemer
7 = Dupont de Nemours
8 = Soud�e
9 = Astral
10 = I.C.I
11 = Sikkens
12 = Rinshed Mason
13 = Corona

Ad. 3: Assembly plant:
F = Flins
LH = Sandouville (Le Havre)
C = Creil
H = Haren (Belgium)
B = Billancourt
M = Maubeuge
