Arianrhod

Silver Wheel; High Fruitful Mother

Arianrhod is the Welsh Goddess of Destiny, Initiation and Reincarnation. Her abode is the otherworldly Caer Sidi, or Spiral Tower which is a complement of her own name, Silver Wheel. Caer Sidi is seen as a symbol of time or karma and is identified with the constellation of the Corona Borealis, the Crown of the North. This circling Silver Wheel of Stars is also known as the Oar Wheel, a ship which carried dead warriors to Emania. Arianrhod is the mother of Lleu Llaw Gyffes and of Dylan by her brother Gwydion. Her original consort was Nwyvre whose name means Sky or Firmament and she was traditionally honoured during the full moon. Taliesin speaks of her as a mistress of inspiration.
