Maintenance of the QBW Newsletter, Website and Calendar

History

Website

The Queensland Bushwalkers Club website began around May 1999. It was the third website in Queensland featuring bushwalking. The other 2 were the Federation/bushwalking website managed by Ken Fraser and an FMR website managed by Ron Farmer. To them I owe the inspiration to begin a website for QBW.

Since then many other bushwalking clubs in Queensland have started their own websites.

The website allows members and visitors to download the Walks Calendar and Newsletter for free.
It provides general information for visitors about  walks, equipment and other articles about bushwalking.
It provides information for walk leaders.

The Queensland Bushwalkers Club website address is http://www.geocities.com/qldbwc/index.html

Newsletter

With the official creation of the Queensland Bushwalkers Club in February 1999, the first Newsletter came out in May 1999.

Initially the Newsletter was produced 3 monthly, a double-side A4 size page in black and white. The Newsletter has since grown both in size and frequency. Colour graphics were begun in April 2002.

At present the Newsletter is printed on three A4 size sheets with printing on both sides, making 6 pages. It is produced monthly and usually put up on the web by the Friday or Saturday prior to the Club meeting. The Club meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month except January when there is no meeting. No Newsletter is published for January. The December Newsletter is usually four A4 size sheets with the extra 2 pages being jokes sent in by members.

The Newsletter can be downloaded from the Club website at http://www.geocities.com/qldbwc/newsletr.html

Calendar

The Walks Calendar is available on the Club website as a free download. It is not necessary for members to attend Club meetings to nominate for walks. Initially the Calendar was available as a web page and a pdf file but the work involved in keeping them both up to date was too much and now the Calendar is only available as a pdf download.

The Calendar can be downloaded from the Club website at http://www.geocities.com/qldbwc/calendar.html
