SUCCESS STORIES!

THE ADVENTURES OF STONY JOE CONTINUE!

So, Stony Joe is selling, bartering/trading and givng away all his stuff...
Posting on L.A. Craigslist, I've already had enough fun to post a record of my adventures in selling and trading.

The GOAL: Stony Joe will go to Burning Man 2007!
THE QUEST FOR BURNING MAN 2007!

What Do I Want To Barter For?

What do you got? I'm open to suggestion. I'm looking for CASH, small items of value, expensive things, fun things, cool things, stony things, tickets and invites to cool events, massage from a CMT, high tech stuff (Ipod, GPS, Digital Camera, DV Camera, etc.) and other people's stuff that I can resell or trade.

FUN STORIES:

Where Did All This Stuff Come From???? 8/25/06
I get asked this question frequently....
I started putting stuff in storage a long time ago. There's stuff from high school, college, 12 years of freelance film production (lots of props, tools and other gear), one marraige/divorce, an apartment in North Hollywood and the pad in Malibu. So there's a lot of stuff.
300 SQUARE FEET OF STUFF!
I've got stuff from two kitchens and a bar, a house full of furniture, boxes of books and magazines, a complete office, sporting goods, electronics, cameras, toys and games, posters, collectibles, clothes, linens, towels and more.

When It Rains...It Pours. 8/23/06
Today was one of those days. I had a set of Mont Blanc pens for sale since I started this list.
Lots of interest, lots, but no buyers...even had one guy drive from Glendale to look at them and say "Oh, those aren't the ones I want" after seeing the pics and reading the emails. So, today, I had three serious buyers turn up at the same time...unreal (like last week when everyone wanted the fish tank I still can't find in storage)...One on the way, one on the phone and one via email and all three ready to throw down the cash.
So the first guy was a half hour late arriving to meet me and almost lost out, but did show up and got the pen set. The second guy got a phone call and the third guy got an email saying sorry...and I still have the Waterman and Cross for sale or trade.

FUN e-mail that I sent today: August 27, 2006
Stony Joe is livin' the good life in the valley right now...
crashing for free in a big house with a pool for the summer.
Looking towards running off to Hawaii or Northern Cali/Oregon for a while soon.
Present work requires that I remain in Los Angeles for now. No time limit until I die.
But I've acquired 300 square feet of stuff I don't need in the last 20 years and now I'm trying to unload it all on strangers...and it's working out.
Gotta run, good luck in your travels too.
What's your story?
Peace, Stony Joe

AUGUST 2006 RECAP 09-01-06 12:33am
Okay! August was HOT! F*CKIN' HOT!
Really F*CKIN' HOT at my storage inside a metal container on a field of asphalt.
Sold a bunch of stuff. Got the storage spaces organized (there are still two as of today) and really got the list together. Still working on it though... still some boxes I haven't gone through...still some things I haven't found yet.
Here's what people wanted to know about most: Mont Blanc Pen Set, Fish Tank, Gibson SG Guitar, 8mm Camera and Projector, and the Backpack. Of these items, only the pen set sold. The airbrush and 16mm camera went the first two days of the new sale and I sold more stuff slow and steady throughout the month. I traded the Hitachi Big Screen Television for a collection of old vinyl records from long ago which I still have to catalogue....and got some cool free stuff to add to the list.
I WANT TO GO TO BURNING MAN NEXT YEAR!
I've never been, heard some stories, been to the website, seen the documentaries, but never been there...so that's my new goal as of this week.
So if you want to help me burn in 2007 buy my stuff!

THE QUEST FOR FIRE! BURNING MAN 2007!

WHAT PISSES ME OFF!!! #1 9-1-06 11:15pm
So I made a email deal with a woman for the standing floor fan, $15 cash, pick up at appointed time...she saw the pic and said ok,...then I call to confirm the pickup and I talk to her husband on the phone (10 TIMES!!!!).
They show up 20 MINUTES LATE, I show them the fan and even take it into a Starbuck's and plug it in to show them that it works. It works.
They say Okay, how about negotiating the price because it dusty... I say NO. $15 is the agreed on price...then I walk with the fan.
THANKS FOR WASTING MY TIME!!!

WHAT PISSES ME OFF!!! #2 9-3-06 7:45pm
Okay, so I scheduled an appointment with a guy who wanted to buy the 2 Jack-In-The Box PEZ that I have in storage for yesterday...so I spent an hour digging, trying to find them in one hundred and ten degree weather for the guy and then he doesn't show up.
Luckily I had other appointments or I might have been really mad.
