Chapter 5 – Punishment for failure

Cage then felt a huge swing from the opponent almost to the point of flipping onto his back but he maintained control of himself and kept his balance. Cage retaliated with one of those good precision kicks aside the head of the opponent. The opponent felt it and crawled to get to his feet. The opponent again went for a huge swing but only this time for Cage to miss and meet with a counter roundhouse. This knocked the opponent literally on his rear with pain shooting from his face to his brain.

Shang Tsung, who was watching the match announce that Cage has won the first round and round two is underway with the same guy as he stands up. Cage wonders why does this sound like a video game. He waited for the opponent to stand and as the opponent did so, he stood in a stance that was very familiar to him. Jeet kun do was the stance that the opponent was using. Cage thought that he could use this to his ultimate advantage since his knows this stance from a simple punch to death blow. He waited for the opponent to strike as he circled Cage. Luckily, the opponent did strike in the stance and Cage countered it with a severe spinning roundhouse.

The opponent hit the ground hard and Shang stood to his feet and everyone had his eyes sat on him. He declared the match done and Cage is the victor. Shang walked out onto the battlefield and told Cage that he could leave the field. Cage did so and Shang walked to the fallen opponent.

“As said in the invitation, if you lose, you will never be the same. Now your soul is mine.” Shang said turning a little vicious.

Shang touched the opponent and a light appeared and seemed to be coming from the opponent into Shang’s fingers. The skin of the opponent turned a bright white and then died. Cage looked in a little horror that he now knows what happens when you lose a fight.

Cage ran to find his friends and told them the news and they were about to hurl but Raiden appeared and offer solace to them.

“So now you see what the might Shang Tsung can do. Now are you ready to take him on or are you afraid?” Raiden asked.

“I’m scared shitless. I don’t want to lose my soul to that freak.” Cage exclaimed.

“So what if he steals souls from hapless victims. I will still put a stop to him once and for all.” Kang said in bravery.

“But are you afraid of this action?” Raiden asked looking at Kang.

“Fear is nothing if we’re fighting for the earth. If we lose, we also lose the will to live and we would have failed our race. If we win, we shall inflict the same fear as they tried to with us and have a reason to live.” Kang said a mouthful.

“Very well indeed, I think you have what it takes to be a human being.” Raiden said.

The other two just stood there and eyeballed Kang as to say you’re absolutely right. Kang looked as if had past a little test that he had been prepared. Raiden turned to Sonya and asked her a vital question.

“Are you ready to face the main thing why you’re here?” Raiden slowly asked

“I only came here by mistake. I was doing my mission of spying and following a criminal.” Sonya answered.

“Yes, but this criminal… is he what you fear? I mean, why do you think he led you here?” Raiden asked.

“I am not afraid of Kano. He is afraid of me and I don’t think he’d want to face me face to face. Why the hell are you questioning me if you know all the damn answer?” Sonya said getting irate.

“No need to question me, now answer my question.” Raiden said a little stern with a little lightning bolt in his eyes.

“If you want to know which I know that you do…” Sonya started but Raiden flashed a quick bolt of lightning to get her attitude to cease, “… Anyways, my partner and I were on his trail and we caught up to him. He put up quite a fight but he had this knife. As my partner was telling me to get the handcuffs to cuff him, Kano put him into a death grip with the knife to his throat. Kano demanded me to throw down my gun and the handcuffs and that he would release my partner. I did so and Kano called me a sucker and practically cut off my partners head. I couldn’t do a thing.” Sonya said with tears streaming down her face but tried to hide them.

“Don’t ever hide feelings, Sonya. I have to admit that witnesses that, I bet you had it out for Kano. I think you have left out one important piece of that story. About you partner.” Raiden said.

“Yeah, I made you don’t go after a guy for years just for killing your partner.” Cage idiotically added.

“Shut the fuck up, Johnny. You don’t know half the shit I‘ve been through. Anyways… my partner was my… fiancé’s friend.” Sonya said

“Now what made you want to follow Kano all around because you can choose what case you want in your particular agency. Why did you pick Kano?” Raiden interrogated her.

“What’s with all these questions?! You’re just bringing all this fucking bad memories back to me. I don’t want to remember them.” Sonya screamed as she walked to the wall.

“I want to hear what Kano did to your fiancé.” Kang asked Sonya nicely.

“Grr…. Whatever… Kano had some stuff that he could blackmail on him and Kano wanted him to do some illegal stuff for him and my fiancé said no. Next thing you know, I find my husband to be shot to death in my house. Now leave me the fuck alone!” Sonya yelled as she walked away.

“Wait in about a couple of hours. She’ll let all this frustration out.” Raiden said.

“The question is, on who?” Cage added.

“Kano, you twit.” Kang said.
