NaNoWriMo
This annual event (taking place over the month of November), challenges writers to forgo perfection and write 50,000 words in 30 days. "Quantity over quality" is their motto. It is a worthy challenge which thousands of writers take part in each year.

ScriptFrenzy
The sibling to NaNoWriMo, Script Frenzy is based on writing a script for either the theatre or movies. This event takes place annually in June. The goal of this sprint is 20,000 in 30 days. A smaller word count but still impressive feat.
Writing.com
With over 300,000 members, this rapidly growing community of writers (ranging from new writers to published authors) is a great place to receive critiques of your writing.
The Claremont Review
This magazine accepts submissions of young writers (ages 13 to 19) and publishes a small book quarterly. They also host monthly trivia contests and a yearly writing contest.
TeenInk
This monthly magazine focuses on publishing various works from writing and photography from teens. Throughout the year various contest take place, giving young writers to voice their opinions and have their talent seen.
