Jubilant Germany manager Ian Edwards spoke seconds after the famous victory in Yokohama:

At the start of the World Cup we were already written off, but we surprised a few out there today, by keeping composed and in the end, coming out victorious. Wins over Sweden and Slovenia before the start of the tournament did us the world of good after a shaky qualifying campaign. Although we are not the most popular side in this world cup I believe we will gain some respect from people after this campaign. Sure, there are those who criticise the style of play, but in a competition like this one, I would rather win a boring match than lose an exciting one. It's been a dream of mine to be in the World cup final, and now I can finally say that I have led a team to World Cup glory. Yes we may have won it by having everyone behind the ball and counter attacking when we had the chance, but that is how we have played for years and I am surprised people are still upset about it. All the criticism does for my lads is give them the confidence to go out there and win; they know that if they are frustrating so many managers, then they are doing something right.
