"HYRULE: The Land of Zelda" DEFAMES VIDEO GAMER X
Today I was informed of something that seemed so unimaginable that I couldn't believe it. In fact I was truly shocked that someone would go to such great lengths to defame Video Gamer X, and "The Odyssey of Hyrule" out of some overinflated sense of revenge. For what purpose, I'm still wondering. As you might know a couple of days ago I posted "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" in "The Wall of Shame" because they used the Video Gamer X debug code without following the simple request that it be credited to "The Odyssey of Hyrule" as it's origination and include reference to me. There was nothing too demanding in that just a simple acknowledgement that it originated from "The Odyssey of Hyrule" first and foremost on the internet. In regards to the Wall of Shame spot I received a reply from one of the website's webmasters named Ultima9999. It reads:
|
I'm really sorry about this. I'm Ultima9999, and I run the code bag section over at Hyrule: The Land of Zelda. Originally, this
section was to be just devoted to gameshark, but a few things were added by Falco-X and I didn't view it because I've already seen
it at your site (I visit almost every Zelda site I come across every day.) Once again, I'm very very sorry that this happened and I
hope we can correct this as soon as possible (I'm working on the html page right now.) Just for the record, we don't make any
money off of the site, in fact, some one else does...and we get the webspace in return (not the best combination.) I dunno about the
sections, perhaps they are concidenaces, I don't know. But all I can say is that codebank is my section, and I will correct this error
ASAP. See ya!
|
After reading this I thought, hey great, someone actually has a heart and cares about fairness and an equal opportunity for acknowledgement. Then I received another letter from him like this:
Please, I'd like you to go to the following pages to make sure they are correct.
http://www.htloz.com/codes_bag/codes_bag_debug_mode.html
http://www.htloz.com/codes_bag/codes_bag_main.html
Sorry about this, and I hope the changes have corrected the problem.

This reinstated my faith in their integrity as both webmasters and individuals and I was willing to retract their "Wall of Shame" status. Right after I read Ultima9999's E-mail, I even wrote after my explanation of what happened regarding the violation this message: The Next day "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" did retract that page and reposted the information supplying the proper credit. Video Gamer X thanks them for making the change and apologizing. I thought the issue had been sufficiently cleared up until the following derogatory remarks appeared on their website on an update labeled 6/14/99. I give credit of this replicated information from their "Updates" section to Hyrule: The Land of Zelda
(Note: All the Links will be Broken this is EXACTLY what they printed on their page)

Today:
"Videogamer-X; a cheap Robin Hood?"
This zelda site webmaster wants credits for something
he actually took from the big-N.
Our site was listed in something
called "wall of shame" for posting a code submited
by a reader without giving credits to This webmaster, who claims
to be the owner of it!. That was a bad movement from that webmaster.
You know, E-mails do exist. he even have our E-mail. He shouldn't
use people to go defend his personal interests. If something
was wrong with him he should have sent a letter explaining his
problems. He didn't do it but posted our site in his wall of
shame page
{VG-X assumes that everybody
on the net knows about him and his site, therefore we are supposed
to know everything he says}
. Calm down your EGO... We are supposed to be civilized people
aren't we?
What is worst! He used the opportunity to remove our reputation
(other common activity nowadays) by spreading cheap lies about
us. What a low movement, let me tell you...
From The Odyssey of Hyrule (no URL) we have:
"... http://www.htloz.com/ - "Hyrule:
The Land of Zelda": In all honesty this site really surprized
me with their transgression. Although this
site has gotten ideas from me i.e. "Miyamoto Interviews,"
"Z-Files" "Triforce Hunts" etc. (Oddly enough
their sections appeared a week after mine) they never once directly
copied me or gave me no credit whatsoever.
In fact this site was in the running for some categories in "The
Odyssey Awards" to be handed to websites across the internet
by me in August, but with this they really blew it. When I posted
the "Video Gamer X Debug Code" I specifically said
that Video Gamer X must be mentioned and a link to "The
Odyssey of Hyrule" should be provided on any and all websites
which it appears. That was all I asked, and In their section
called "The Codes Bag" they copied it without mention
of those things. Why? I don't get it. Were they afraid that gamers
might start visiting my site and they would start losing money
from their advertizing banners? (which is technically illegal
since Zelda is owned by Nintendo and any money or profit made
under that name belongs to Nintendo) I mean
really how petty can you truly be. All I can say is, THANKS FOR
NOTHING! You can E-mail these guys (apparently they have a whole
team of webmasters at their disposal to make that site, also
the same guys that were the target of that Ariana Almondoz Triforce
Hoax) at [email protected] Maybe they'll find in their vastly
giving hearts to let Video Gamer X and his puny website have
their recognition."
Somebody wrote to our editorial and mentioned than in this
site he had this posted. Amazing but look what he says:
"this site has gotten ideas from
me i.e. "Miyamoto Interviews," "Z-Files"
"Triforce Hunts" etc. (Oddly enough their sections
appeared a week after mine)"
1) Miyamotos interviews are taken from IGN , NINTENDO and
THE LAST ONE was submited TO US by TIME Digitals Producer, Mr
Lev Grossman (www.timedigital.com).
As we all know Videogamer-X you're not the owner of that stuff,
so shut up, listen and learn...
2) The Z-files section in our
Zelda64 guide has nothing to do with his and is probably
older than the one he has in his pages, it was an original concept
by Falco-X and I'm sure he had better things to do in that moment
than stealing ideas from other sites. In any case, he stole it
from us, or it was just a big coincidence.
3)Triforce hunts? At least we had some exclusive
articles, and real research on
the Triforce case and went deeper into the truth without using
sensationalism using BETA screenshots to spread confussion and
get more hits, just as they did. We also said that Arianas Case
was supposed to be exclusive unless Ariana decided to send it
to other sites(according to what she said, that never happened)
. I remember when Odyssey... used part of this site's investigation
without permission.
Did Falco-X opened a wall of shame page? Nope. :)
We are sorry but we can not keep track of every code discovered
in every existent Zelda site. Therefore we ALWAYS give credit
to the people who send the codes in. Because Odyssey..webmasters
could be lying, why not? As far as we know, the code we got was
courtesy of a guy
whose nick was "Link"
BESIDES:
According to Videogamer-X (webmaster of that site):
"... Only
30 people in the world
knew of this code, I became the 31st, now today I will release
this Classified Info to the whole internet here on my site "The
Odyssey of Hyrule". By releasing this code though I want
it to forever be called "Video Gamer X's Code" and
if you (webmasters) decide to mention this code on your site
then It must be called
that, and a Link must be provided to "The Odyssey of Hyrule".
Whelp, (Nintendo's gonna hate me for this) here's Video Gamer
X's Programmers Debug Code."
What if this guy called "Link" is one of those
30? Ah? never crossed your mind right? Why are you taking credit
for a code that is NOT YOURS anyway?
YOU DIDN'T FIND IT. SOMEONE
GAVE IT TO YOU!
Maybe our reader "Link" is the REAL
owner? why not?
Think about it, you and the rest of your readers...
think-about-it.
With all due respect, prove what you are saying and we'll
make the changes to stop this sort of unnecessary situations.
And to Odyssey of Hyrule's Videogamer X (What is it with the
X at the end of the name?):
You should give credits to:
1) Zelda Heaquarters (you
used some of their pics!-heeee..the orange border in the transparent
Gifs are easy to identify, what else did you use and we don't
know?)
2) Hyrule:The Land of Zelda (for using Ariana's
pictures -as far as we know, exclusive)
3)"Sitting Chewie" (for using the pics of The
T-REX OF HYRULE joke without mentioning his name although
he complained and tried to get to you several times but you never
answered him!!!!)-and this is just one example.
According to what they wrote, they knew our site in extreme
detail. Mmmm... interesting. Looking for something?
About our banners: The money is to keep the site alive. The
Zelda Club, The "Made in Hyrule webring" and some people
out there who are in charge of a well known official magazine
are happy because of that. :-)
Having a domain and running a site of this size is not cheap.
Of course you don't have to worry about those little problems.
And what's wrong? if you had put a banner, and get the visits
you said you get..then now you would be swimming in money....
:)
Videogamer X, you have our email, send something, we can talk.
You have your credits in the page now, BUT:
... if we find out that YOU ARE MAKING
FAME of a code that doesn't belong to you... and you just took
it and put your name on it, who do you think would be in our
NEWSLETTER OF SHAME?
Just think about it. Think-about-it...

At first after seeing all this I was shocked, stunned, and frankly astonished that someone would go through the effort of utterly defaming and vilifying someone over such as petty an issue as saying they got a code that is from "The Odyssey of Hyrule".
For the record, you people who visit this site and take the time to participate and enjoy the things I offer without any kind of cost or stipulation deserve to know the facts and to have the misconstrued arguments factualized.
First off, I never TOOK the code from Nintendo (that part about infiltrating Nintendo HQ was made up to make it sound cool and mysterious, just for fun), the only place I took it from was myself fiddling with buttons hours on end and with direct help from T-Dog's CROOKED CART trick. Furthermore, sites that end up on the Wall of Shame page got there because they were unthoughtful and took information without ever quoting, crediting, or mentioning "The Odyssey of Hyrule" or Video Gamer X. Just about every one of the sites' webmasters that ended up on the Wall of Shame scoffed at my asking to have them remove the information and in good friendship apologize after E-mailing them, so I stopped doing that. With the help of good fans of this site Wall of Shamers were convinced that what they did was wrong and they in turn ended up apologizing and fixing the problem. Hyrule: The Land of Zelda claims I took information from them Regarding the Ariana Almondoz Triforce Debacle. Actually I didn't take it, I "quoted" it, and MOST IMPORTANTLY I provided a link directly to "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" and said it was them who all of that information and images originated from which is entirely legal, polite, and courteous. They in turn used my image of the "Triforce on the Quest Status" and posted it on their site in same fashion nice and fair like. As a matter of fact Ariana did E-mail me too after she had done her damage to that site, and I just sent her a letter back saying I was no longer interested in hearing lies from her regarding "The Overture of Sages" and her convoluted and totally false process of attaining the Triforce. Also for the record, when I said that "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" got ideas from me, that was actually meant as a compliment, and notice how I said that they were going to be awarded in August! They claim I stole things from ZHQ and their site but in all honesty I can't figure out what they're talking about. (As a matter of fact I've always been a big fan of ZHQ and they are the one and only site that has been a good friend on the internet. Cheers to Niels, Conrad, and Rod Jones for making the first ever great Zelda Supersite.) It seemed they wanted to take a poke at Video Gamer X with unfounded information and empty truthes. Just so you know, I doesn't cost me very much to make and run this site without Advertizements at the top of my page. You may notice that I'm a member of the Link Extange which is free and I get no money for that either. Saying it costs large amounts of money to run a website is a farce. It does cost money but you can get unlimited space on some servers for $19.95! and a domain for another $20.00. I will never let greed overcome my persuit of fun and happiness for all gamers, everywhere across the world. All in all I don't care that "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" or the people that host them get money for their website, it's just an example of where motivation lies, that's all. I'm not out to make enemies, in fact I've always been the one to want to bring people together to talk about their favorite game and find new ways to enjoy that game. It seems jealousy and revenge have overtaken the once hallowed halls of "Hyrule: The Land of Zelda" and perhaps they should rethink their intentions in defaming a good guy. I'm not going to argue with the webmaster(s) of that site because doing so would be both pointless and waste time that I could be making this site better for you Zelda fans and gamers alike. There have been many great men in history that have maintained their steadfast belief in an idea and a way of thinking, Jesus Christ, Ghandi, and Martin Luther King, for example, without ever picking up a sword or a gun. Let my weapon be the conscience of those that choose to attack that which they do not forgive. Let my shield be the voices of those that know who truly is their "friend."
Perhaps by convincing these people: [email protected],, [email protected], [email protected] There can be a peaceful end to this tyranny of hate.
Looking back on all the trials that I have endured while trying to maintain this site it has been almost a soap opera of dire events transpiring with Wall of Shamers, Ariana Amondoz, The Impact Gaming Debacle, The Loss of the Miyamoto Interview, and now this. But guess what, I'm still here, and I will never give up or let those that visit and enjoy this site down. Despite what other people think or attempt to make me fail I will not succumb to failure or self-doubt. Pressing onward I will continue my quest and trailblaze a new world for Zelda fans and gamers alike. No oppressors will prevent my name from being representative of an emancipation from the confines of what others desire me to become or conform.
The diabolical mastermind of this campaign of slander proved to be none other than the site's very own webmaster Falco-X. There seems to be a division in the Hyrule: Land of Zelda staff between those members who are true Zelda Fans and regular gamers and some tyrant who seems to be bent on being famous with his website and sees all obstacles, namely me and "The Odyssey of Hyrule" as enemies and is willing to resort to personal attacks to defame my credibility and good stature in the Zelda Community. This webmaster is a veritable Gannondorf of the internet. First, I want to say that one person has done a good thing there, and that is Ultima9999, he's apologized for his Boss' abherent behavior. He Wrote:
|
It looks like Falco has really screwed up this one. He changed the credit page (I bet he was going to do that...and I couldn't have communicated with him that day because of personal business) and just basically made a little thing become huge. I don't know what to do now, but I'm sorry that it happened. I dunno what he was trying to prove. Since I'm just a staff member and have little power over the whole scheme, I can restore the pages back to what they were, but that's about it.
|
I kind of feel sorry for this guy being led around by a person like that, it truly shows what kind of a person this Falco-X really is when one of his underlings speaks against his webmaster. Not good. I often wonder what kind of outfit this Falco-X individual is running, but perhaps words from the man himself will shed light on his true nature. Falco-X said to me on 6/16/99.

Too bad you wanted it the hard way. You want to fight? We can fight. I
don't want to, but remove all that crap about us and our site or I will
not forgive you in any way. And I'm serious about this.
We told you to send an email, but looks like you didn't have what is
needed to do that. Stop behaving like a kid or I will do the same to
you. I can also post your email in our site and in many other sites out
there. I can reach more than 5000 readers just by pressing a button in
my email browser, imagine what could happen if I show your Email in our
site during a week...
I don't like what your faithful readers are saying about us. And this is
making me mad. You put ideas in people's minds, you told them that the
codes in your page are yours. And you know they are not. You like to
lie, well I have good news, I can also post codes in my site and tell
people they are mine... what do you think? Later I can open a wall of
shame page waiting for someone to catch the bait. Later, I can make fun
of that site, show its Email and tell people to send crap to its
accounts. Later, as a consecuence I will start getting more hits! Wow,
that's a good plan isn't it? Low but effective!!!

This deranged individual seems to have missed the point entirely of why he was put on the "Wall of Shame." to begin with. It's not like I've been the first site to have been basically screwed by this guy. HIS behavior rubs dirt in the face of Zelda fans just to bolster his own ego. Wall of Shamers are unthoughtful people that seek to ruin the sanctity and originality of peoples websites by copying their work, giving them no credit, and misrepresenting their achivements. Falco-X descends to the darkest hole on the Wall of Shame where the likes of Ariana Almondoz reside. These people are bent on making life miserable for the rest of us Zelda fans that don't step to their parade. I've personally had enough of this guy and will NEVER give him the satisfaction of E-mailing him. All in all, the only thing that could rectify his Ganondorf-like behavior would be to RETRACT that page defaming me, and replace it with a SINCERE apology regarding what he said and did.
Perhaps with your help Falco-X can learn the errors of his ways at return to the Good Side of the Force. I truly hope that this individual will stop attempting to ruin everything that is great about Zelda and the internet and return peace back to Hyrule.
