A wort (pronounced wert) is the product of all the incredients added together and boiled. The mlated barley is first crushed breaking up the kernel and allowing the sugars inside of it to be fermented. At the begining of the boil the hops are added to give the beer bitterness, logically these are called the boiling hops. They usually take about 90 minutes to produce the acids that make the beer bitter. Sometimes depending on the kind of beer your are making finishing hops are added at the end of the boiling process for flavor, and aroma. |
