Vinny's Food Truck Fleet

A. Documentation of the Development Process

The main purpose of this website was to create one convenient location for customers to find out information about all the food trucks that Vinny is currently running. In order to accomplish this, I made sure that each web page included information about every truck. This will allow the customer to view one page, say the calendar page, and then they will know which trucks will be near them on a specific day of the week. If they navigate to the menu page, they will be able to browse all the menus at one time in order to find the kind of food they craving. I believe that keep all of this information in one area will bring more business to all the trucks as people realize there are new meals for them to try.

B. Defense of the Final Product

First off, I chose a color palette that I thought was fun, but not overpowering or distracting. The main colors were gray, light red, light yellow, and a dark blue. I used the dark blue for the borders around my pictures and videos because I thought that it stood out nice against the pale-yellow background I used in my body. In the header area I used gray because it went very well with the black logo and company name that I designed. I used red for the navigation bar area because it stands out the most, and that is a very important part of the site for the user. I was initially going to add some vertical bars down the left and right side, but I preferred the minimalist look that I had so I decided against it. I decided on two main fonts: Acme and Roboto slab. I found them fun to look at, but still very easy to read. They reminded me of a font I might see in an Italian restaurant, which is Vinny’s main focus.

C. Opportunities for Improvement and Growth

There are definitely areas of the website that I struggled with, and that I would want to improve upon if given the chance. I had several problems with getting text where I wanted it on the page. I tried using margins and the width attribute to achieve this, and though I eventually succeeded, I know there were probably better ways to get it done. It also might not scale well on mobile devices or tablets with my styling choices. I would also have liked to add more detail and pictures on my pages. I felt that if I added anything it might conflict with my current styling, and then I would not be able to get it back to how I wanted it, thus I kept it as it was. An additional page I would like to have on this site would be a social media page where there are links to the trucks’ other social outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. These might give more real time information, as well as photos and reviews of the current food being served by the truck.
