Flash galore!
I discovered Newgrounds when I was sent a link to it. Last November, I became seriously interested in the site, and - unfotunately - it has wasted a lot of my time.
I have submitted 2 movies - Exploding Fungus and Exploding Fungus 2, both of which are shitty animations without any sound, without any decent animation or any real humour - but at least they've got some style and are mildly original.
Anyway, enough about me. Here's a wee introduction to what goes on at Newgrounds.
First, you have the Portal. Basically, this is a collection of over 20000 Flash animations made by various artists. This was created by a guy called Ross and has become the backbone of Newgrounds. Most of these movies are rubbish. However, a few of them are exceptionally good.
Here are a few of my favourites
Lain - A Tribute: A music video which was apparently some guy's first attempt at Flash. The guy's a genius.
of Mind and Machine: You'll need to spend a few minutes over this one to read all the text and understand what's going on. It's worth it tho'
Shooting People For Fun 2: A well made sick cartoon about a guy shooting people. Watch it to the end.
Field Guide to Snapping: A really funky music video that lives up to its name.
Flush the Wave: A really stylised music video, with a plot!

The 'Clock Crew' call themselves a team dedicated to making quality Flash work. Some others say that they are 'trying to fill the portal with crap'. I agree with the latter party.
Most of the stuff on NG is rubbish. Even my stuff is better than some. However, there are a few select things which are definitely worth watching. One day, I will make my own collections of stuff I approve of.
NG was made by a guy called Tom Fulp. It was created before he left home for college and the site was then called NewGround- a synomyn of NeoGeo. Needless to say, the site was a Neo Geo site at this point. But hey, I won't waffle on. You can read more about the NG history here.
One piece of work which made NG famous was XiaoXiao 3. There are a few Xiao Xiao movies on NG.
NG also became famous for All Your Base. A load of clones were then spawned...
I genuinely think that the NG banners are well smart. So I decided to just plonk them all in a column, with a little explanation below each one.
NG features killing stuff. Hence this

This is actually a game on NG. Pico vs
the Uberkids.
I thought this was the most impressive banner I'd ever seen.
Pico is a very important character to NG. When Flash 3 was new, Tom Fulp made a game called Pico's school. This pushed Flash 3 to its very limits. Now, after having made a few spin-offs, he is working on Pico's School 2. It should be brilliant.
This is also a game on NG. It involves
killing Britney Spears.
Lastly, here is an example of the type of stuff you can expect to see on NG. This particular movie was voted the most highly yesterday. Obviously, some great stuff recieves shitty votes, and some shitty stuff manages to get great votes. But here is... the Daily Feature.
