The Kingdom of Time

Jordan, situated in the Middle East, boasts a rich and intricate history shaped by various empires and civilizations. It was initially home to the Nabateans, who established the city of Petra around the 4th century BCE. The region later became part of the Roman Empire in the 1st century BCE, with Roman influence seen in cities like Jerash. The Byzantine Empire controlled the area in the 4th century CE, leaving behind churches and mosaics. Following the arrival of Islam in the 7th century, the region fell under the rule of the Rashidun, Umayyad, and Abbasid caliphates, which contributed to its cultural and architectural heritage. In the 16th century, Jordan became part of the Ottoman Empire for about 400 years until the end of World War I. Post-war, it was under the British Mandate for Palestine from 1921, known as Transjordan. Finally, Jordan gained independence in 1946, becoming the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and maintaining a stable monarchy ever since.
