Doctor Who Weekly (APed) #19, 2/20/80 "Doctor Who and the Star Beast". Sharon was a secondary school student living in Blackcastle, England. The Meep used his appearance as a cute, furry alien to gain her sympathy. Sharon gets a new costume that she wears for the duration of the strip. Beep's ruse was uncovered and he was handed over to the Wrarth, and the Fourth Doctor prepared to take Sharon back to Earth. On Sharon's next adventure, she not only gets a new hairstyle, but literally grows up. Their encounter with Brimo the Timewitch ages Sharon 4 years. While this did not affect the Doctor significantly, Sharon was suddenly in her early 20s. Not having been fond of being an adolescent, however, she was quite pleased with the results, and she now sees little point returning to school. Sharon APed

Lost Girls (coming of age aftermath) Alan Moore, artist Melinda Gebbie. Set of three 112-page hardbound books, the product of a 15-year collaboration. The girls in question are Alice, Dorothy and Wendy, 3 women of varying ages and rather sordid sexual histories, now fully grown up, who converge on a Parisian hotel before the beginning of World War I. Like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen before them, they are all figures ingrained in our collective psyche. Almost by definition, sex is one of the landmarks that divides being a child from being an adult, says Moore of recreating the protagonists of the Oz, Wonderland and Peter Pan books. Growing up, as it's defined by Lost Girls, involves a number of increasingly graphic situations, almost every sex act imaginable, and among other things, corruption at the hands of the Red Queen, a Freudian flying boy in green tights and a renegade tornado, as tanks descend upon their hotel.

The principal comes in and she laments about having to leave 10 years older. He produces a cream made from the Fountain of Youth and rubs some on her face. There is a poof of smoke and, in her stead, there is a much littler girl, still chained up and in similar sized clothes. Then the principal informs her that she'll have to serve her detention again. Shortly after, they are on the stage and the stage manager (played by the same person as the principal) comes in and rubs some of the lotion on his face. The story is set in 1920s Tokyo, in a world where everything from automobiles to telephones is powered by steam. Our heroines are the Imperial Assault Force, Flower Division, a group of teenaged girls who fight supernatural evil using steam-powered armor called Kobu, which amplifies their natural spiritual power (they are selected for their talent in controlling spirit energy, which is why the group is all teenagers). (growth) Tara Savage has just turned 12, but the growing schoolgirl from Cranbrook in Kent already towers over most women she meets - and a fair share of men. At 6ft, she is growing at a rate of 6in a year, putting her on track to become Britain's tallest woman. By the time she was 5 she was wearing adult shoes, and adult clothes at age 8. Now she has 32in arms, her inside leg measures 36in and she can no longer fit into the largest available school uniform. But she does not see her height as a problem and says her ideal adult height would be 6ft 4in. According to standard growth charts, the average height for a 12-year-old girl is 150cm or 4ft 11in, but she does not suffer from any known syndromes. So is Tara comfortable with life in the extra-tall lane? 'Right now I like being tall,' she says. 'People usually think I'm about 15 or 16 and I don't get any hassle from other children - it's easier to stick up to bullies and also protect my friends. I get the occasionally hurtful comments, but I try to ignore them. I just think "this is who I am. I know there are disadvantages to being very tall - I find it especially hard to find shoes. My feet are now size 12 and I have to buy them on the internet,' she says. If she does not start her periods this year, doctors have told her she will have to decide whether to take female sex hormones to slow her growth. These fuse the growing ends of the bones so stop growth prematurely. Meanwhile, Tara is focusing on the advantages of being tall. 'It does have its upsides,' she says. 'I find all sports easy and I'm in all the school teams. Plus I've always been able to get into the rides at Chessington World of Adventures because I beat the height restrictions!' Spider-Woman: Origin (flash forward AP) #1, 2005. The intriguing secret history of her journey from child experiment to Hydra agent to S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to super hero to private eye to Avenger! The Doctors Drew, funded by a military slush fund, have created a whammy DNA compiler. A freak accident lasers Miriam, pregnant with Jessica. In her room, little Jessica Drew is completely bored with her dolls. With her nose bleeding she pulls her hands away with part of the window sill still attached to her fingers. She falls back and slips into unconsciousness. She releases a poisonous spider. Mrs. Drew discovers that Dr. Drew is using his own daughter for his research. She confronts him as he's taking more blood from Jessica. Dr. Drew chases young Jessica back into the lab with Mrs. Drew following. As the room starts to become blurry, Jessica falls unconscious to the floor. Fade to black, and then we see the words "DADDY?" Then we see a pair of hands emerge from some kind of liquid, and a young woman comes out, obviously much bigger than before. A variety of well-choreographed poses of an underage Jessica Drew strategically-standing naked before General Wyndham and half a dozen Hydra soldiers. We see her scared face as someone off panel says "No, not daddy".

Margi Geerlinks (flash forward, flashback, coming of age) Photo artist. A little girl crochets a breast that she then displays on her chest with a mixture of pride and doubt as to the final outcome. Digital imagery enables the child to project herself into her adult life. Whilst face creams are supposed to erase the ravages of time, Geerlinks applies this demonstration literally in her photographs of faces in which wrinkles are erased by the miraculous action of a simple cotton wad sans technology.
