Now I've added the hair details and cleaned up a few minor details.
Then, using the painbrush tool, I add the basic colors, starting with the face.
Now this part may seem and look strange, but whenever I have to paint a white color on a white background, I always use a different color other than white. You can't tell if you've painted the section completely if you use white. Here I painted the eyes and teeth green (see a doctor Tom!) then after I've completed all the white areas, I use my paint bucket tool and change it to white..
Now I unlock the photo layer (lock the pencil layer) and I drag and resize the photo next to the drawing to use as a reference. Now at this point you can clearly see that the drawing doesn't look as good as the photo, but it'll all work out in the end, I promise!
I then color the rest of the basic colors. You don't need to copy the colors exactly, like for the clothes...use what you want.
The next steps get a bit more complicated but if you're still here after this long winded rant, you've proven that you have enough patience to continue. (told you I write a lot!) You now have two options: You can click the "next" button to continue, or you can click the "x" to close this tutorial and go get drunk instead! At this point you can do your own coloring techniques and add whatever background you like. If you're curious to see how I do it, then by all means continue.
