It is the collagen fibers which are the building blocks of firm, younger-looking skin. Oxygen replaces old collagen with new collagen that is rich in moisture. For youthful skin, this cycle happens normally, but as old collagen remains on the skin with age, it becomes difficult for new collagen to be produced.
Therefore, the amount of collagen itself is depleted, and the ability of old collagen to retain moisture. As a result, skin loses the "lifting force." The inside of the skin loses firmness starting from the late twenties. At that point, it is important to start proper skin care.
