July 1998
My web site was created in early November 1997. A lot has changed since then. I'm two years old now and I've grown by many pounds and inches. I can count to 20 and know all my ABCs. Best of all, my immune system has gotten a lot stronger. My T-cell count has risen from almost nothing to 233,000 -- well within normal range. I have lots of B-cells, too, but the doctors don't know if they work yet, so I continue to have infusions of intravenous immunoglobulin every month. And while I still like the characters of my babyhood, my favorites are now superheroes like Superman and Batman. Here are some other things that have happened to me since we first met.
Thankgiving 1997 I started walking! A few days later I was running all over the place, and driving my parents to distraction. |

Christmas 1997 (age 17 months) I got my very first job as Santa's elf. I found lots of great stuff under the tree, including an Animatronics Barney. |

SCID Row, Part I (age 20 months) In March 1998, I returned to Duke University Medical Center for re-evaluation. The doctors were "thrilled" at my progress. Dr. Buckley, who did my transplant last year, didn't recognize me at first, I'd grown so big. |

BMT
Birthday (age 21 months) I celebrated the first anniversary of my bone marrow transplant on April 29, 1998. Dr. Buckley relaxed my reverse isolation restrictions -- I can play with my cousins as long as they're not sick and haven't had any live immunizations recently. She didn't say anything about cake. |
Independence Day, 1998 I learned to ride a boogie board. Dr. Buckley said I could swim in the ocean (but not in a pool). I spend most of my spare time at Silver Point Beach Club, where my family has a cabana. |

My 2nd
Birthday! I celebrated my second birthday (July 21, 1998) with the world's 2nd greatest superhero -- Batman! Dr. Buckley said Batman was OK because he never gets sick. The other guy in black is Dad -- my #1 superhero. |

Coming Soon I return to Duke University Medical Center in September 1998 for some new tests! I'll keep you posted. |
