Hudson-Bergen Light Rail
in New Jersey

On Saturday, April 15, 2000 Governor Whitman formally opened the Hudson Bergen Light Rail at Liberty State Park. Full service began on Monday, April 17, operating every 15 minutes from Bayonne and Westside Avenue in Jersey City to Exchange Place in Downtown Jersey City.

In November, 2000 service was extended north to Newport. In September, 2002 service was extended to Hoboken. In the future, service will expand south to East 22nd Street in Bayonne as well as north into Bergen County.

The Village Crosstown Trolley Coalition (VCTC) has been organized by a group of neighborhood residents to develop plans and community support for a river-to-river light-rail trolley line linking the East Village, West Village and Greenwich Village.
