We spent last night at the Totem Lodge Inn at the Prince Rupert harbourfront having disembarked in daylight at ten o'clock. This morning we talked to the manager at the motel and, on her advice, we tried again to get a ferry booking to head down to Vancouver Island.

We were told a couple of weeks ago that it was totally impossible to get any sort of booking before the end of September.

However Derek has come back not only with a "first on the wait list" provisional booking for the date we wanted but a foot passenger booking to Skagway, Alaska for two hours time.

We are checking out the notices while we wait.

We leave Prince Rupert in the sun, head south down the channel and turn sharply north towards Alaska. This is a ferry serving communities all the way up the coast

Pretty soon it begins to cloud up but the views are so spectacular that no-one minds.

There is a real mix of people on the boat, locals, heading home, and tourists from all over the world

We like it here.
