SAGABAY History The University of the Philippines Student's Active Group Aiming for the Betterment in the Academe of the Youth (U.P. SAGABAY) is an interest-based organization formed mainly for camaraderie and at the same time develop each member's inherent abilities. The organization lives by these three main principles: (1) believes in the inherent ability of every student to excel academically and in other fields if properly guided to fully develop their potentials, (2) believes that every student has the right to fight against suppression, and (3) believes in the strength of cooperation and solidarity to achieve one visioned goal. UP SAGABAY was conceptualized by some second year students during the start of the Academic Year 1996 - 1997. On June 23, 1996, the first election was made and the list of members was finalized. A total of twenty-two students including eight officers were on the list. Elected were Alvin Gian Arcaya (Supremo), Glenn Labajo (Ninong), Lloyd Ian Agujetas (Eskritoryo), the five Kaabays were Democrito Baflor, Jr. (Mamahandi), Oliver Dean Testa (Tigpanuop), Meljoe Pocong (Magtutudlo), Merchinito Fernandez (Tigsabwag), and Ludwig Maxilom (Berdugo).
SAGABAY Creed We, the UP SAGABAY believes that each has his inherent ability to develop if properly guided, students have the right to fight against all forms of suppression that adversely affect the studentry, that the strength of cooperation and solidarity is important in achieving one visioned goal. We believe that GOD is the Supreme Being and is the center of all our endeavours. We believe that camaraderie and brotherhood is achieved by respect, loyalty and empathy towards fellow men and that every SAGABAY is true to his word and upholds the integrity of the organization forever.
