Barb makes the ranch her studio. She attributes much of the peacefulness and laid-back atmosphere to the type and quality of her work. As a self-taught artist, she has acquired a style and grace found in each piece she creates.

Barb's work has been seen at the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City, South Dakota, art galleries in Helena, Montana; Central City, Colorado; Deadwood, South Dakota; the Cowboy Hall of Fame, Pierre, South Dakota; and in the homes of private collectors in such western states as Montana and Idaho.

Her hand-tooled leather pictures have made their homes in Germany and Canada, along with almost every state in the United States, including Hawaii.

A large leather portrait graced the home of the late Ben Johnson, a noted actor in numerous westerns. Other notable portraits include Sam Elliot as Conager, Buck Taylor as Creek Johnson and Tom Selleck in the Crossfire Trail. Another leather portrait was done of rodeo great Casey Tibbs and is hanging in the Casey Tibbs Museum in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota.

Leatherwork has always been Barb's passion, since the finished pieces virtually come alive with a story to tell. Each piece is done entirely in leather, hand-tooled and dyed toperfection. The picture is completed with an old barnwood frame, or a frame that is in harmony with the picture itself. No two pieces are ever alike, contributing to the one-of-a-kind uniqueness of each piece of art.

Barb starts with a pencil drawing and when she is satisfied with the finished "pattern" she starts the leather artwork. No finished product is sent out without her critical approval.

Barb usually keeps a limited number of pictures available for local livestock shows and Christmas fairs, but otherwise the bulk of her work is strictly commission and requires from two weeks to one month to complete. More time is needed for the larger or more intricate pieces.
