Locomotive #630 Restoration Progress
August 19 & 20, 2002
Here are several views of the new section of the first boiler course with the tubesheet in place (but not welded yet).  There is also a view of the liner of the smokebox with all the openings cut in it and awaiting its turn in the roll.  Finally there is a series of shots of the door ring being rolled and set up to weld the joint together.  This is the piece that has the bolts in it which hold the smokebox front in place.

Note: The front fluesheet (or tubesheet) was cut by McKee Baking Company's machine shop several weeks ago.  (McKee produces America's favorite snack cake.)  The other work is being done by TVA.
Al Phillips continues the long, tedious process of making frame repairs.
