Belleek Irish China Celebrates Its 150th Anniversary
By J.D.
The Belleek Archive Collection proudly marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Belleek Pottery. Each one of the fifteen outstanding pieces in this collection has been chosen to represent one decade in the rich and fascinating history of Belleek.

Founded in 1857, Belleek's reputation has been built on the pottery’s founder, John Caldwell Bloomfield and his declaration that any piece with even the slightest flaw should be destroyed. Each piece of Belleek China is a truly original piece of craftsmanship, made using materials and techniques handed down from generation to generation. Every handle, flower and brush stroke is lovingly applied by hand to create the look and feel that is uniquely Belleek.

The 2007 Belleek 150th Anniversary Archive Collection includes a Shamrock Covered Dish, Shamrock 15-inch platter, Shamrock Muffin Dish, Shamrock Spill Vase, Tall Celtic Teapot, and a ceramic hand woven Henshall Basket. The stunningly beautiful Dolphin Candlestick and Echinus Footed Bowl feature angelic cherubs in elegant European style.

The ubiquitous Belleek “Harp and Hound” trademark reflects not only the heritage of Belleek, but the history of Ireland itself. This trademark was formalized in 1863 and is feature on two pieces. The Round Tower Centerpiece features the harp

and hound sitting at the base of an castle tower perched on a stone hill accented by hand painted ivy and shamrock. The visual effect is captivating and this piece is certain to be in high demand.

The 2007 Edition Trademark Beverage Mug features the harp, hound and castle in relief adorned with ornate filigree and hand painted shamrock. The Belleek Trademark Beverage Mug will only be produced in 2007 and then retired. Each mug is signed and dated by the Belleek artisan and designer, Naomi Sloan.

Each piece of the 2007 Belleek 150th Anniversary Archive Collection will be produced in limited quantities and arriving in stores this spring. The serious collector is encouraged to pre-order now to ensure their piece of Belleek history.
