Stopped off on the way to have a look at Copi Hollow Caravan Park. The park
looked very nice but we were after some free camping. Arrived at the Burke and
Wills campsite for lunch. Had a walk around and then set up camp. We got in some
firewood. The weather was cold and cloudy. We had Irish Stew, which Odette had
pre-cooked i Broken Hill, for dinner. It was very nice on a cold night. Two
other vans at the campsite. Off to bed at 9pm. There is a lot of bird life
around the river.
It was at this site that Burke and Wills split their camp. There is a
commemorative tree marking the event.

After
breakfast Odette went into Menindee to pick up some bread and pay a couple of
overdue accounts that had caught up with us in the mail at Broken Hill. When
Odette returned we went and cut some firewood and after morning tea we went for
a walk to see the weir. Odette cooked a meat loaf in the camp oven and it wasn't
too shabby. After dinner had a coffee and drinks with the other two sets of
vanners and met "John" the policeman from Menindee.

A coolish morning, overcast. Gathered in some wood. Tony and Margaret left
about 11.30am. Vaughn and Shirl staying another week. Mid morning some sun, and
the day has warmed a bit. Odette cooked in the camp oven. A kookaburra dive
bombed Jack as he was eating a bone, attempting to get its share of the meat.
We have seen a lot of birds at this campsite. Some of them are : Wedge Tail
Eagle, Dorters, Nature Hen, Black Cockatoo, Silver Gull, Pelican, Galah, Green
Parrots, Kookaburra.
Odette has done a lot of videoing and filming. A really lovely place to camp.
