NETWORK TOPOLOGY

DEFINITION
  • All the computers and other devices on the network connect to a central device (hub/switch), thus forming a star.
HOW IT WORKS?
  • In a star network , data , instructions, and informations transfer from one node to another node passes through hub/switch.
ADVANTAGES
  1. If one device (pc/printer) fails, only that device is affected.
  2. devices (pc/printer can be added to or removed from network with little or no disruption.
  3. Easy to troubleshoot and isolate.
DISADVANTAGES
  1. If the hub or switch fails, entire network will be malfunction.
  2. Requires more cable than most of the other topologies.
