About This Site

Documentation of the Development Process:

The purpose behind this website was to implement a business for my false Uncle...whom was bestowed the name, "Uncle Kenny". His backstory was that he was an expert in the chef's steel. Being able to determine value by size and weight and also having the talent to refurbish tarnished cutlery.

I chose to go with a Knife business because it would allow me to reach the objectives of the assignment while also doing something I enjoy. I'm a fan of cutlery because I actually used to be a chef.

When creating this website, i knew I had to have video, images, forms and tables. People would need to contact my uncle to use his services so I placed the form for contact on the home page. Next, I had to complete the hyperlinks, so i chose to have them as a sidebar and linked it to the knife pages that had the tables on them. I made sure each page allowed me to complete an objective for the final project.

Defense of The Final Product:

Each page had the same theme to it. With my site being completely uniform, I was able to simply plug in what I wanted to certain parts of the page, rather than building from scratch.

I chose to go with the dark red backround on the links with dark grey for the actual text color because I feel like the two contrast very well. I flipped the inside color scheme of my container so that it balances out and stays with the theme of my created sidebar of hyperlinks. I chose the Saddlebrook for most of my borders because I felt like it was a great in between color that would add a little more depth to the sections.

My Home page was built the way it was to quickly add an image and show my use of forms. It was also a fun little way of introducing everyone to my imaginary uncle. On the Japanese knives page, I was able to offer a table and more images, as well as my video near the bottom of the page. On the German Knives page, there is another table and I added a gif to give two types of image formats. If my uncle Kenny had not been imaginary, my refurbishments page would have had any projects he completed and what prices they were for sale. On the bottom of each page I also have the branding in the footer.

As for fonts, I chose to go with Georgia and Arial fonts because they contrast each other well and are compatible with most computers. The functionality of my site is very easy because I have the floating/scrolling sidebar on the left, which allows for navigation whenever you would like and also the page is very organized.

Opportunities for Improvement and Growth:

I could actually see myself creating my own business with this. The only exception is that I would be "Uncle Kenny". I enjoy collecting cutlery and having great gadgets in the kitchen. There is nothing like a new knife to assist in cooking your meals. I probably could have done better with the website as a whole if I managed my time better. During this course I was in the process of moving and also got sick so it slowed me down a lot. Due to poor management, I was sort of rushed to complete the project. I met most of the objectives and hopefully they will be proficient enough. As for my first website, I believe it's a great job. Clean, crisp, and well coded. I think I had a little too much unneccessary code, that overlapped but hopefully I can correct those issues with time. I plan to learn more in depth improvements CSS can help me with, when creating a website. I hope to rid myself of the amateur website look sooner rather than later. Overall, this course has given me a lot of insight of how fun this field can be and what I can actually create from my own imagination to display to the world. Thank you all for a great course and igniting a fire to continue my development as a web designer!
