Miller, hey hows it going? Jakob asked, as he and Nickolas stood in front of him, blocking his getaway path.
Fine, Daniel replied taking a sip of his coffee.
How are you feeling after yourhow long were you down in that pit? Nickolas wanted to know.
Well its October and I was taken in June, Daniel began, so about four months.
Right, Jakob said, as Nickolas looked at him. So you were just taken from your home, huh?
Yeah, Daniel said nodding.
That had to suck, Nickolas said. I mean, here you are suffering from amnesia the past 17 years and then all of a sudden you get kidnapped, because of some stupid diamond. I cant imagine being in your shoes.
You have no idea how it felt, Daniel said.
Nickolas and Jakob looked at each other and Nickolas said, So you just learned you have a brother and sister, must be exciting.
I guess, Daniel said. I spent my whole life in an orphanage wondering who I was. Its just a shame we had to find each other under these circumstances. Its also a shame Marty and his girlfriend were in on this.
Yeah; it is a shame, Jakob said. Jenais really upset. Her and Marty were really close and then she learns it was all a show, because he wanted some 800 year old legendary diamond.
So I was missing four months then, Daniel said.
Yeah, Jakob answered, knowing it was all a lie. Kevin called and said you went missing. Daniel nodded.
So how come you never told us you were suffering from amnesia? Jakob asked. Weve been working together for quite a few years now. Yet you never said anything and we were considered your best friends.
I didnt think it was that important, Daniel said.
You couldve said something, Jakob said. We wouldve been more than happy to help ya find out your past. Thats what family is for anyway.
I know, Daniel said. I didnt want to burden you guys with my problems.
Right, Jakob said looking at Nickolas and raising an eyebrow.
I cant believe someone would do this for some lousy diamond, Nickolas stated. Its a tragedy when ya cant even trust your family anymore.
Youre right, Nick, Jakob agreed with him. It is a tragedy and it is a lousy diamond.
Its not a lousy diamond, guys, Daniel began, its the Heart Diamond of A man Soo. Nickolas and Jakob looked at him. Its supposed to be thirty millimeters in diameter.
And its a legend, Nickolas reminded him. No one ever found it.
Jenai did, Daniel said.
Hear say, Nickolas said.
I have a question, Daniel, Jakob said.
Whats that? Daniel asked.
How did you know its the Heart Diamond of A man Soo they were after? Jakob questioned. It couldve been any of the legendary diamonds in this world.
Daniel looked at them quickly and said, I over heard you guys talking earlier.
Right, Jakob said. Could you excuse us a second? Jakob pulled Nickolas to the side and whispered, I say we bust him now.
On what grounds? Nickolas asked. Knowing too much?
He knows the diameter of the heart, Jakob said.
And so does everyone else who studied Ancient Egyptian Mythology with the infamous Dr. Joseph Rothman from 1996-1999, Nickolas stated. I know what needs to be known about the Heart Diamond. It was Dr. Rothmans favorite subject so he spent, like, three years teaching it.
Do you remember seeing Daniel?
No, but I did the three month summer program.
Of course. They looked at Daniel. I still say we should bust him now.
Maybe we should talk to the Sarge.
Listen, Carter, Daniels guilty. Ya know he was never reported missing. Nickolas nodded. And he looks pretty good for spending four months in a pit. Besides, Jenai said she saw him that night ten years ago. Hes involved and we bust him now. Nickolas sighed and looked at Daniel then at Jenai who was standing outside the tent looking around. You never liked the guy, Nick, and you always wanted to bust him for something, but never found anything hard. This is your chance. You got hard evidence against him so lets bust him and get it over with.
Ok, lets bust him.
Jakob smiled getting out his gun and said, Well explain to the Sarge later. Nickolas nodded and Jakob whispered something to an officer walking back. Lets do this. Nickolas got out his gun and followed Jakob back over to Daniel. He had his back turned and Jakob tapped him on the shoulder. Oh, Daniel, do you mind turning around.
Daniel slowly turned around and saw the two guns pointed at him. Whats going on, guys? he asked and noticed the other officers with guns pointed at him.
Go ahead, Nick, Jakob said.
Daniel Miller, you are under arrest for the murder of Alexis Jackson and the attempted murders of Jenai Richardson and Jakob Underwood. You have the right to remain silent, but anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you can not afford one, one will be appointed to you.
This is ridiculous, Daniel said, as Nickolas slapped the cuffs on his wrists.
Whats ridiculous is how you hid amongst us and we never knew it was you, Jakob stated. Finish reading him his rights.
He knows them, Nickolas replied. Fitzgerald, put Miller with the rest of them.
So you finally found something hard on me, Detective, Daniel said. Nice work.
Get him out of here, Nickolas said. That was easy. He put his gun away.
Like he had a chance, Jakob said smiling and looking at Nickolas.
Uh-oh, Nickolas said.
Whats the matter?
Im missing a gun, Nickolas answered. I had them both twenty minutes ago. They looked at each other. Skip Miller took my gun, but I got it back when I knocked him down and when we returned here Dani gave the other one back to me.
JJ, Jakob said. Shes a good pick-pocket.
Damn her, Nickolas said. For her hating guns she is sure getting her use out of them lately.
Yeah, Jakob agreed, as they ran back to the tent. They ran inside and the others looked at them. Wheres Jenai?
She just went out, Aaron replied.
Whats going on guys? Justin asked, as they ran back out. Im always the last to know. He slowly got up and went outside.
