Youre not allowed in here, the nurse said.
Police business, maam, Nickolas said flashing his badge.
Alright then, the nurse said. Itll be amazing if you get anything out of him. He hasnt told us anything; not even his name.
Jenai got closer to the bed then stopped saying, Its him; its Vin Davis.
Yeah, Nickolas said. Do you know what happened?
Gunshot, the nurse replied. In and out. The doctors dont think hell make it. Personally Im surprised he lasted this long.
We need a moment alone with him if you dont mind, Nickolas said.
Of course not, the nurse said. Good luck. Nickolas watched her walk out and then looked at Jenai, as she got closer to Vin.
JJ, Nickolas said.
I want to watch him die, Jenai said, Just like he watched Brianna and Alexis.
You dont have to do this, Nickolas said.
Yes I do, Jenai said. Nickolas stood beside her and they both looked at Vin. A few minutes passed and Jenai gasped, as Vin grabbed her arm. They both looked and saw Vin looking at them.
Come to watch me die, Vin said faintly and grinned. Not that Im surprised.
Why dont you clear your conscience some and tell us whos behind this, Nickolas suggested.
I could, Vin said.
So do it, Nickolas said and Vin shook his head.
Why not? Jenai asked. Its not like theyll kill you for squealing, because youll already be dead.
That doesnt matter, Vin said.
Damn it, Davis, Jenai said. Just give us something if not a name. They just looked at him and his grip got tighter on Jenais arm, as the monitors started beeping. Ow! She pulled his hand off her.
A name, Davis, Nickolas said, as the nurses rushed in.
Youre going to have to leave, the nurse said.
Not until I get what I came for, Jenai said grabbing a syringe and putting it in Vins chest, but didnt inject him.
What the hell are you doing? the nurse asked. That much will kill him.
Hes already dead, Jenai said.
JJ, cmon, Nickolas said.
Get security, the nurse said and Jenai grabbed Nickolas gun and pointed it at the nurses.
Dont even think about it, Jenai warned. I swear Ill fill him full of this shit and I aint afraid to. Now back away from that door.
Do as she says, Nickolas said. I promise she wont hurt you.
Unless you make me, Jenai promised. Im not leaving until I get what I came for. She looked at Vin and with one hand on the syringe and the other pointing the gun at his head, she said, I want a name.
If youre going to kill me, Jenai, Vin began, then you really shouldnt be looking me in the eyes. Itll haunt you for the rest of your life.
Well it wont be for long if you dont give me a name, Jenai said, as the door opened and she quickly pointed the gun at the intruders.
Whats taking so long? Jakob asked and he saw the gun pointed at him and Dannika.
Oh, Dannika said.
Just stay there, Nickolas said, as Jenai slowly put the gun back on Vin.
A name, Davis, Jenai said.
Your brother, Vin replied.
I have two ways to kill you right now, Jenai reminded him. And I aint afraid to do it either. I want a fucking name.
Your brother, Vin repeated.
Dont give me that shit, Jenai rebutted. I want a name.
Im not saying anymore, Vin said. Youre going to have to kill me. The gun shook in Jenais hand and so did the syringe. Vin smiled and just looked at her. Youre not a killer, Jenai, or else you wouldve done it already. You cant kill me and avenge your sisters death. Youll just be as bad as me if you do.
JJ, Nickolas said. This isnt the way.
Youre right, Jenai said slowly pulling the syringe out of his chest. Id rather watch you burn. She yanked the syringe out of him and he jerked his body. But on second thought I think a nine millimeter bullet to the head at point blank will do it. Id be satisfied with it.
So do it, Vin said. No ones stopping you. He pressed his head harder against the gun and grinned. Do it. She just looked at him. Do it!
Im just pausing, Jenai said. I want to hear you beg for it. Maybe even beg for your life like you made me. Which do you want? Life or death? He just looked at her and she pulled the trigger, but all they heard was a click and Jenai chuckled, as Jakob and Nickolas looked at each other. Jenai pulled the gun away and looked at it. Arent you a lucky bastard, Davis. The damn thing aint even loaded. I think I was just saved from damnation. She chuckled disgustedly and sighed. Youre not worth it ya piece of shit. Ill just leave the doctors kill you that way my hands are clean. She handed Nickolas his gun and they watched her walk out.
Nickolas put the safety on and said, I am so sorry about this, He put his gun away and ran out after Jenai and Jakob and Dannika followed. JJ! They followed her outside and to the parking lot. JJ!
Just go away, Jenai said.
Not until we discuss what just happened in there, Jakob said. Besides, the cars on the other side of the parking lot. She stopped walking and they caught up with her. Brianna would be disappointed in you.
Shes dead, Jakob, Jenai reminded him. So it doesnt matter what she thinks. They just looked at her, as the tears went down her face. Ive waited and prayed for the day when I got the chance to kill the bastard that hurt us and I finally got it, but I couldnt do it. I dont know why though.
Because youre a good honest decent caring person, Jakob aid. Youre not as cold-hearted as Vin Davis is, Sweetie. He hugged her. You got so much going for you and you know itll be stupid for you to ruin that.
But does it make me a bad person for wanting him dead? Jenai asked.
Of course not, Nickolas said. He hurt you and ruined your life.
I want to be there when he takes his last breath, Jenai said.
So do I, Jakob agreed.
Why dont we go back to the cabin, Dannika suggested. We all can relax and Ill make us lunch.
I cant eat, Jenai said. I just want to watch that bastard die. She left Jakob go and started walking back to the hospital and they looked at her.
How are we supposed to help her? Dannika wanted to know.
We cant, Jakob said. Ive been trying the past ten years.
Well I want to help, Dannika stated and Jakob shook his head, as he started towards the hospital and Dannika and Nickolas followed him.
Maybe watching Vin will help her some in getting her life back on track, Jakob said. I cant help her any so maybe this will.
Do you think so? Nickolas asked.
I hope so, Jakob said. She refuses counseling or any kind of help for that matter. She does have a diary she writes her feelings in, but I dont think it helps any. He sighed. I just wish there was something I could do for her, ya know.
So do I, Nickolas said getting out his gun and taking out the clip. He looked at it and stopped walking before he went back into the hospital. Uh, guys.
What is it? Jakob asked, as they looked at him.
This is a full clip, Nickolas replied showing them.
Yeah, so, Dannika asked.
I had to put the safety back on when JJ gave it back to me, Nickolas pointed out and they all looked at each other a few moments.
Maybe it was a dud, Jakob finally said breaking the silence.
Or a higher power at work, Dannika stated. Stopping Jenai from making a huge mistake.
Ill go with the dud, Jakob said.
So will I, Nickolas agreed putting his gun away and they walked inside.
Nonbelievers I take it, Dannika said and Nickolas and Jakob both grinned. They went straight to ER 5 and a nurse walked out.
Hows Mr. Davis? Nickolas asked.
Not too good Im afraid, the nurse said. I dont expect him to make it through the night.
Is he conscience? Jakob asked.
No, the nurse replied. But your friends in there.
Thank you, Nickolas said, as they went inside and saw Jenai sitting by the wall and looking at Vin. JJ.
Im not leaving until I know for a fact that hes dead, Jenai said. You can stay if you want. I dont think hell mind an audience.
Are you sure you want to do this? Jakob asked and she nodded. Then Ill stay with you.
So will I, Dannika said.
Ditto, Nickolas said. Jenai just gave a slight nod and kept her eyes on the heart monitor. Nickolas looked at her wishing there was something he could do for her. There wasnt anything he could do though except being there for her; just like he was now.
Youre not allowed in here, the doctor said and they all looked. Im going to have to ask you to leave.
Im not leaving until I know hes dead, Jenai said and the doctor looked at her. Until that machine flat lines and you declare him dead Im staying right here.
I cant let you stay here unless youre family, the doctor stated.
Well he killed my sister and her best friend and raped me, Jenai stated. So Im not leaving until hes dead. Youll have to call security to get me out of here.
Whats his condition? Jakob asked.
Critical, the doctor replied. Hes getting weaker every minute. Nothing we do is helping.
He doesnt need help, Jenai said. Hes a murderer. Do you think his victims had help? Of course not. So why does he need help?
Hes still my patient, the doctor stated. I have to do what I can.
Just leave him die, Jenai said.
You need to leave, the doctor replied.
Could I speak to you a moment? Jakob asked.
Of course, the doctor said and they walked out.
I dont care what that doctor says, Jenai began, Im not leaving. I need to do this. I have to do this.
We understand, Dannika said.
He watched Brianna and Alexis die so Im going to watch him die, Jenai stated, as the machines started to beep.
Maybe you dont have to wait that long, Dannika replied, as the doctor ran back in.
He flat lined, the nurse said.
Get the crash cart, the doctor ordered.
Let him die, Jenai said. Just let him die.
Clear! the doctor said sending an electromagnetic shock to Vins heart and looking at the heart monitor. Lets try 300.
Lets leave him die, Jenai said, as she watched the doctor try to save Vin. She watched for the next ten minutes, but the doctor couldnt get the monitor to stop beeping and get a steady rhythm. She sighed and said, Hes dead, Doc, give it up. The doctor looked at her a second then tried again for another five minutes.
Dr. Sumner, the nurse said and he looked at her.
Call it, the doctor said.
12:13 p.m., the nurse replied.
Finally, Jenai said getting off the stool, as the nurse covered Vin. The bastards finally dead. They all looked at her. Lets get out of here. She walked out and the others followed.
